Hotel Erbprinzenhof

You want central? I'll give you central!

After weeks of tedious research for a hotel room for the VT EuroMeet 2008 in Germany, I finally decided to book a single room at the Hotel Erbprinzenhof (once again, a little gem that VT doesn't have in their hotel list!) and what a great decision it was!
I mainly choose this hotel for
a) its incredibly central location
b) its very good price tag.

I paid EUR 56.- per night for a non-smoking single room and this included a lovely breakfast buffet PLUS a public transport card for the city centre.
If you book online, you can print-out your reservation confirmation and show it at the information office of the Karlsruhe public transport (right outside Karlsruhe main station). There, you'll receive a free ticket that is valid until the Europaplatz. From here, I walked past the Ludwigsplatz and was delighted to see that after only another 200 metres, there was my hotel!

The staff were incredibly friendly & helpful (they lent me an umbrella on a stormy night, and they also had a hair dryer for when I returned to the hotel dripping-wet!) and their reception desk is manned 24 hours a day, so you don't need a night-key, etc. The room's furniture is a little dated but it has television, a fan (which was very helpful during the hot summer nights) a sufficient closet and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom looked quite new & the entire place was spotlessly clean.

Breakfast consisted of various breads & buns, some cakes & doughnuts, tea or coffee, fresh juice, a variety of cereals, hard-boiled eggs, yoghurts, cheeses and some cold cuts.

Unique Quality: Knowing that I would be close to pubs and bars, I had requested a room that faces away from the street. My window faced a courtyard and it was mostly quiet (apart from hearing another hotel guest snoring somewhere with the window open... haha!)

Exactly opposite the hotel you'll find an organic supermarket. Come out of the lobby and turn left, walk for 10min and you reach the ECE Ettlinger Tor shopping mall. Come out of the lobby and turn right, walk for 2min and you're at the Ludwigsplatz (being close came in very handy after 2 nights of heavy partying with VT members ;-) The Europaplatz can be reached within 5min.

The Badisch Brauhaus restaurant (the venue of our initial VT EuroMeet dinner) is just around the corner and I walked there within 10min.

I would definitely stay here again and I recommend this hotel to anyone seeking clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation in the heart of Karlsruhe!
