BADEN STATE THEATRE
by LoriPori
Opera - plays - ballet - The BADEN STATE THEATRE is Karlsruhe's temple of the arts.
Built between 1070 and 1975, the Theatre was designed by Helmut Batzner. There are 1,002 seats in the large auditorium and 330 in the smaller one.
The three-legged "Musengaul" ( the muses nag ) which stands proudly outside the theatre is the work of sculptor Jurgen Goertz.
The Baden State Theatre, was the meeting point of the VT Saturday Walking Tour. Since there was such a large group, we were divided into three groups, with three leaders - Katherine (KathrinE) Andrea (Jadefrau) and Bernd.
Karlsruhe at the rhine

Truth is that I never realized before visiting the town that it has a rhine harbour, and really a big one!!
One evening we made a tour along the rhine by Inline Skates. Beautiful landscapes and I love to watch ships passing by.
My Swiss addictions...
by Tripack
Mountains and chocolates are two of my passion... so I become easily addict to Toblerone.
At the beginning I would share a drink with all VT attendees to Euromeet2008, but when Christine announce 149 people I nearly faint!!!
So no problem I bring 3 kilos of mini Toblerone... by chance no control as the Swiss/German border... so everything is fine to share these little sweet taste of Switzerland with the VT team. To maintain our choco (t)abs, I limit two per person, but sadly I must report some abuse (and the list is quite long)... All right I will keep the name strictly secret as every good Swiss banker. By the way many VTer's ask if I was working for this Swiss company... unfortunately not but it is my secret dream job although usually I never mix work and pleasure ;-)
A quick historical note about the specific shape:
The Matterhorn is the emblem of Zermatt and its shape could have inspired our Swiss chocolate master for the creation of the Toblerone. Although different versions exist of where the unique shape of Toblerone originated from, I find this one the more tatsy ;-)
Just taste it during the next Euromeet ;-)

I would spend most of my free time at Ludwig Platz, drinking, eating, meeting friends. I like all of the cafe's but Krokodil and Salmen were my favorites. I would sit and sketch this fountain and finally found a bookstore that had its history. I want to paint it when I have time. It has a unique history and wonderful style.

I shopped at two large department stores, Karstadt and another I forget the name. I was impressed that in the basement were grocery stores. I found Crystal Hot Sauce made right in New Orleans and other products that allowed me to do New Orleans style Red Beans Rice and Sausage for some friends dinner. I still have the cloth shopping bag from Karstadt.
