Travel from Milan to Friedrichshafen

Hi ! There is a possibility I may travel to Milan on business in January/ February, in which case I would like to visit Friedrichshafen to meet-up with some friends who have extended a standing invitation. I will appreciate if I could have the options to travel from Milan to get there. I am ok with public transport if availabe.

You can get from Milan to Friedrichshafen in roughly 6 hours 15 minutes by train, with change of train in Zurich and Singen (Hohentwiel). You can also take the train to Romanshorn (change in Arth-Goldau) and take a ferry to Friedrichshafen (ferry dock is only about 50 meters from the train station). A bargain fare (EUR 43.50) might be available for certain itineraries. Take a look at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en for details.

That was really fast! If only all things in life were as VT! I guess the train ride or the other route with the train ride and ferry would be very scenic. Thanks a ton.

Using the german rail is also an excellent way to take the trip

I have not taken the segment you are traveling but I have gone from Karlsruhe to Paris non-stop from Karlsruhe. I checked Milano Centrale to Karlsruhe Hbf and there are trains with one change. Note that you can also alter the length of the layove, as sometimes the site only gives you 5 or 6 minutes - you can specify you want a longer layover to change trains.

One of the nices sites I use extensively!

Going Milano - Arth Goldau - Romanshorn - ferry to Friedrichshafen is probably the most scenic route. Milano - Arth Goldau goes over the Gotthard, and the direct train Arth Galdau - Romanshorn, also known as the "Voralpen Express" is very scenic too.

The Local Tourist Office

The first thing we did at Karlsruhe was heading for the Main Train Station and park in the neighbourhood. In the Lauterbergstrasse were some short time parking spot, which were very welcome. Free parking on the streets is virtual impossible.

We headed to the station and went to the opposite side to get our first information of the city. The staff was very cooperative and we got a lot of free brochures and maps.

LUDWIGSPLATZ ( LUDWIG SQUARE )

One of the most popular places in the Karlsruhe city centre is LUDWIGSPLATZ or LUDWIG SQUARE, which was the meeting point for Thursday night's mini pre-meet and for Sunday's brunch at Lehner's Wirthaus. Many cafes' and restaurants are situated in this large square and in the evening it is hopping with visitors and locals alike.
Ludwig Square takes its name after the Grand Duke Ludwig 1 of Baden.
