Although I attended the first, second and third VT Glühwein meetings in Karlsruhe, I missed the fourth and fifth because of teaching commitments in Frankfurt am Main. So I was happy to see that the sixth annual meeting was on a weekend when I was free, namely December 4-5, 2009.
There were fifteen present this time, thirteen VT members and two guests, which is just the right size group so you can get to chat with everyone. (This is not counting Kathrin_E, who arrived on Saturday afternoon just a few minutes after I had to leave -- sorry, Kathrin!)
We met as usual on Friday evening on the steps of the big church at the Market Square, went and had some Glühwein or coffee or whatever at the Christmas Market (which was dry this year -- no slush on the ground!) and then went for supper and conversation to a restaurant called Alte Bank.
The next day Bernd took us to a place called Bretten, which I had never heard of up to then.
Thanks again to Christine for organizing the meeting.
Funny figures
by yumyum
In Kaiserstrasse (the main shopping street) you can find various bronze figures. This one tries to keep the rubbish in the bin. But if you look behind the figures you may be surprise what the rubbish actually is.

The soccer club
by World-travel
The Karlsruher Sport Club was a great team in the beginning of the 90´s but right now they are only in second league, but still most people in karlsruhe talk a lot about their club. It is still fun to go there even the level is not as good anymore.
Just to name some players who were part of these great team. Oliver Kahn, Mehmet Scholl, Thomas Häßler. Hopefully they make it to the first league in a few years.
1st, 2nd and 3rd annual VT Glühwein meetings
by Nemorino
Glühwein is mulled wine, that is hot red wine with lots of wintry spices in it. The best time and place to drink it is on a cold winter night at one of the many Christmas Markets in Germany, so that was our pretext for having a VT meeting in Karlsruhe on December 21, 2004.
Thanks to Christine (tini58de) for organizing this nice meeting and for doing the "official" write-up about it afterwards.
Unfortunately this "official" write-up seems to have disappeared since the latest VT relaunch, but you can still have a look at my travelogue about this meeting, here on my Karlsruhe page.
A year later we had a second annual Glühwein meeting, and in 2006 we had the third. So it really is becoming something of a tradition. If you are going to be anywhere near Karlsruhe next December, please come and join us.
