 | | | | Dorint Novotel Karlsruhe: A quiet place to relax
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I was looking a good value hotel to find all my high standards to have a very short sleep but a efficient one. I have experienced Novotel from the French Accor group in some place around the world several times (Hong-Kong, Sydney, Perth, London, Hurghada,...) and been never dissapointed so once again I was please of my stay in the Karlsruhe Novotel Kongress. I got a good deal with the 40% discount offer City Break (min 2 nights). 2008 prices (breakfast included) were EUR 69 for a single or EUR 77 for a double. Not too bad from a Swiss prospect ;-). Very central and close of everything (Zoo, Railway station, Botanical gardens, Karlsruher Schloss , shopping center...) were reachable in less 10 minutes (1km) except for lively night spots which took me more time to come back to the hotel ;-.) But just follow the tram rail and jump in the right tram (number: 2, S1, S4, S11) back to the hotel and stop Kongresszentrum. At arrival, I got a welcome drink vouncher + 1 free drink in the mini bar. The check-in was quick and efficient. The staff is able to speak several languages (German, English, French...). My room has a large bathroom with music, dressing, king size bed, TV, A/C, minibar... as the usual stuff see picture to get an overview. Hotel facilities that I use were the breakfast room with a various choice for a healthy day start and fitness center with sauna and hamman to eliminate the excess of long VT party nights ;-) Don't forget that Novotel is family friendly by offering all year and around the world, accommodation and breakfast are free for two children under the age of 16 staying in their parents' or grandparents' room and having breakfast together.
The little Lindt chocolate waiting for me on my pillow and the fitness area... still waiting for me ;-) Leave a Comment

Unlike some countries, the star ratings in Germany are regulated and actually mean something. No problem like countries where the hotel gets to decide and they have a myriad of systems like stars, diamonds and who knows what. The system is: 5-Star – Luxury 4-Star – First class 3-Star – Comfortable 2-Star – Standard 1-Star – Tourist (read budget) Hotels also display their stars and have their stars on their websites so you know before you go! | | | | Acora Hotel Und Wohnen Karlsruhe: Great value for money
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed in Hotel Acora for two nights for Euromeet 2008. We chose it basically because it was cheap and we knew that we wouldn't be sleeping much anyway. As we planned attending the meeting rather early we got an early bird special price and paid only 43,20 EUR for the double room (excluding breakfast). Hence we didn't really expect a lot. However, we were surprised how convenient this hotel actually was.
First of all the location was great. Only one stop by tram away from Europaplatz (or then a short walk). From the tram station we had to walk for 5 minutes to get to the hotel. Near the hotel there is a supermarket and a bakery. Very convenient as the hotel room is equipped with a small kitchen and a fridge. We found a parking space for free right in front of the hotel, too. Perfect! The room was rather large, actually it was a two-storey room. The bed was upstairs, downstairs was a balcony, the bath, a small living room. Each storey had a telly, everything was tidy and clean and better than we actually thought. The only disadvantage of staying in a two-storey room for me was the very steep and scary staircase combining the bedroom floor with the bathroom floor. I hated having to use it in the middle of the night (and actually during the day too ;). If you are a non-smoker you should ask for a non-smoking room. We had no preference when booking and nobody asked us whether want to stay in a smoking or non-smoking room. The smell made us realise quickly which kind of room we got. Luckily there were enough windows so we forgot about the smell 5 minutes after we entered the room.
