Hotel Petershof

I pre-booked the hotel on a website, so the staff was informed about my arrival.
There was no paperwork todo during checkin.
Only for getting a free public transport ticket one has to fill in a form.
My single room was located on the 2nd floor (no lift).
It featured a small toilet and showeroom, free wireless internet access, a fridge, safe and flat screen TV.

The breakfast was buffett style, and it was rich.
From toast, to egg, bacon, pancakes, cereals, sausages, cheese, ham, fruits and salmon; nothing was missing.
Well, the layout of the breakfast room was a little narrow.
Overall I was satisfied with this place.
The location was okay, about 10 min on foot to the old town.
Or 6 EUR by cab to Konstanz Train station.

Unique Quality: I did not see anything outstanding.

From Lyon to Konstanz

by maryamk22

What is the best way to get from Lyon or Grenobles to Konstanz?

Re: From Lyon to Konstanz

by Pakistaniguy

Hmmm... in my opinion get a train. It might stop at a few station or you might have to change at a few plances but this is the best and easiest option.

The nearest airpor to Konstanz is Friedrichsafen. It is served by Ryan air and connects to London and with other German cities by Lufthansa.

The nearest Big airport is Zürich in Switzerland and Stuttgart in Germany.

According to the website of the Swiss Federal Railways www.rail.ch the trains take about 7 hours from Lyon to Konstanz, passing through Geneva and Zurich (changes required). Probably your best option.

I sugest traveling on a weekend, you can take a train to Basel/Bad and from the German side travel on a Schoneswochenende ticket, which cost 21€ for 24 hours train travel within Germany. You can travel with up to 5 people on this ticket.

Travel Tips for Konstanz

Using Internet ?

by Pakistaniguy

I stayed in Insel Hotel in Konstanz, which is considered to be the best hotel of this city. In this hotel, Internet is free of cost for all the guests of Insel hotel. Nobody asks u to submitt your room key and tell your room number. So, even if u are not a guest at this hotel just confidently walk in and just on the opposide side of the reception there is a glass door and u can see the computer there inside this lobby room. There is hardly anyone using so, just take your seat and use as much u like ;-) If someone asks u the room number just tell then 331, where i am staying now ;-)

Largest falls in Europe !!

It's off the beaten rack while visiting Konstanz, cause in Switzerland they know this spot veeeeery very well.
The river Rhein comes till here (close to Schaffhausen in Switzerland) to create an impressive wall of water; a trail with stairs brings you directly into the water wall and some boat tours could bring you even under it.
It's simply amazing ... do not miss it, it's just one hour driving from K.

Italian Restaurant near train station

by VDElvis about La Piazza

La Piazza is a pretty nice, affordable restaurant with a great location on the Marktstätte, right be the main train station. The food is okay, not great. It won't wow you, but it probably won't disappoint you either. It has a pretty nice decor, with a large outdoor patio in nice weather. I had a Margherita pizza, which was okay, but I don't think I'd get it again. My wife had a salad and a plate of beef carpacio, which she seemed to enjoy, but wasn't wowed by.

Explore the Rhine's aquatic habitats at Sea Life

by CatherineReichardt

I have visited the Sea Life aquaria in both Konstanz and Konigswinter, and am in two minds about whether I really like this chain or not. On the one hand, they are guaranteed to keep kids happily occupied and do have educational value, and on the other, they are hellish expensive (and that's even before you have to run the gauntlet of the gift shop through which you have no alternative but to exit) and perilously close to being a theme park rather than a nature experience.
Regardless of my misgivings, we retreated into the Konstanz aquarium to escape the oppressive midday heat. Here I have to give the designers credit for local context, as much of the aquarium is given over to recreating the various aquatic habitats along the course of the Rhine, from the glacial meltwater streams which sustain the river's headwaters down through Bodensee and the main Rhine valley to the river mouth at Rotterdam.
Needless to say, on such a blisteringly hot day, we paid particularly close attention to the first part of the exhibit and loitered in the refrigerated surroundings of the glacial habitat as long as we could!

Grape Harvest in Meersburg

by eurotraveler5

As we ate our lunch outside the restaurant across the street, we watched local farmers bring their grapes to be processed into wine. The young boy who was helping out, ate handfuls of grapes as he unloaded the buckets, and also offered them to tourists!
