Accommodation in Konstanz or Zurich?
by Pandafree
We are looking for 6 nights accommodation - Konstanz (3)and Zurich (3). Is it true accommodation is cheaper in Germany than Switzerland .
Is it cheaper for my 12-year-old to sleep on an extra bed in my room with my husband and I, instead of paying triple-sharing ?

Nearly everything is cheaper in Germany.
Konstanz

Interesting place would be also the youth hostel in Konstanz which is partly in an old water tower.

Here a family room is anyway standard. With families all members have to pay the junior prices only.

Triples are anyway rare. Some hotels will offer this, some even for free. Depends totally on the place.
For hotels you may use
http://www.hrs.com
1 double room, 2 adults, 1 children (in 2nd step: age 12 in extra bed)

Thank you for the reply. The Youth hostel looks interesting but the hotels are still beyond our budget.

The youth hostel would be a good choice for a family in my view.
Nice location, nice views. It was also opened just a few years ago.
Another option if staying 3 nights would be a vacation appartment.

Thank you for the website. Came across some pension apartments... Are these available for us to stay or should I look out only for vacation homes only. Sorry I am struggling a bit as most of the apartments are in German language (English)

Pensions are some kind in between vacation apartments and hotels.
If you have question you can also mail directly to them.

Hopefully your luggage came with you, so bring that if you can and bring that cotton bag that's in your closet if you can as well. When you go out shopping for groceries or whatever, you'll see a lot of people carrying those square cotton bags instead of the plastic one's from the shop. Never forget that Germans are very environmentally friendly, so try to be the same. O.k, it's April and you're not heading to Spain here so do bring a rain coat and boots or shoes that repel water,...lots of water! I don't think it ever stopped raining while I was there. Leave the toilet at home, there are plenty here in Konstanz, and if you're ever in need of personal supplies simply look for an "Apotheke"; they should have whatever you require. Bring what ya got.
Cozy Café
by VDElvis about Das Voglhaus
Das Voglhaus is a nice cozy café in the heart of the old town of Konstanz. Great warm atmosphere, with good coffee and snacks. A great way to spend an hour or so. There is also a store attached to the café where you can buy things like candles, garden decorations, and many more household items. There is also a small cafe in that part of the store.
Konzilgebäude (Council Building)
by Pakistaniguy
Konzilgebäude (Council Building) played a major role in the history of Constance. It is a grey stone building . It was built in 1388 as a granary and a ware house before making its mark in history as the place where Pope Martin V was elected. Nowdays it is a concert hall !
Trinity Church, Former Augustine Eremites Abbey
by Kathrin_E
Located two minutes from the train station in the busiest shopping street, this church is probably the first one you’ll encounter upon arrival. The plain gothic basilica was built around 1400 as abbey church for the Augustine Eremites. After the closing of the monastery in the secularization it became a catholic parish church and was named Dreifaltigkeitskirche, Trinity Church.
The interior of the gothic church has been redecorated in baroque style in the 1730s. The church’s art treasure are the frescoes on the walls of the central nave. They were painted during the Konzil in 1417, paid for by Emperor Sigismund and his spouse. They depict the different branches of the Augustine order and figures of saints. Long hidden behind plaster and forgotten, they were rediscovered in the 1950s.
The church is open in the daytime. It has recently been restored and is in excellent shape.
