Three Palaces, a Town and a Wombat
Take 1 gorgeous autumn day, 1 bike, 1 camera, 1 wombat, 1 mommy, 2 S-Bahn trains, 1 bag with sufficient food and drink supply, 3 baroque palaces and 1 town, sort ingredients in proper sequel, and you get 1 perfect excursion.
This was a photo excursion for w*rk reasons. Anyway, sometimes we both are glad that there is no car in our household. Everything has to be done by public transport, bike or on foot. We took the S-Bahn to the nearest station and then set out by bike to explore the palaces. In between we enjoyed the ride through the beautiful autumn colours of the countryside. We got fresh air and sunshine and exercise. Just like a wombat likes work.
We started in Kuppenheim and biked over to Favorite, the summer palace of the Margraves which is located in a big beautiful park. From there we continued into the town of Rastatt. We first visited the tiny Pagodenburg on the river bank, then into the centre to see the big residential palace of the Margraves again.
I had already been to Rastatt palace once before, i.e. during the 2008 Glühwein meeting when a bunch of VTers went to Rastatt. On that day we even saw the interior of the palace during a guided tour before we reached our final destination, the Christmas market. So we did not have to do the tour of the palace again today.
