Travel Tips for Schwäbisch Gmünd
Maps of the Town
Finding your way in Schwäbisch Gmünd is easy.
1. Metal boards with maps have been put up in many places all over the town.
2. If you arrive by train and want to take a leaflet with a map with you, walk into the station hall first. The local tourist office has put up a shelf which contains town maps and other leaflets on museums and events, free to take. The shelf can be found inside the station hall next to the exit door that leads to platform 1.
Rinderbacher Torturm, another of the five preserved medieval towers, served as gate tower for the road leaving the town to the east. Like Königsturm it is also fortified towards the outside and open towards the inner side, i.e. the interior of the town.
Schwäbisch Gmünd's local Guggemusik Bands
Two bands from Schwäbisch Gmünd participated in the Guggemusik festival: Gassafetza ("Alley Smashers") and Überdruck ("overpression"). I assume that these groups were also involved with the organization of the festival.
As locals they had their fans in the crowd and put on a big show.
Their music is as flamboyant as the colour...
