Stuttgart to Black Forest
by deepa_sg
I would be arriving at Stuttgart at 6 am on March 30th, 2007. I would be travelling onward to Baden Baden to see the Black Forest. Please let me know if there is a bus that would get me there and if yes, the details of this bus (when it leaves Stuttgart, from where, which metro station is closeby, how many hours the journey would be.
Thanks much!

People in Germany usually travel on the train from one city to another. buses are available for local travel- Frequent trains are available from Stutgart to Baden-Baden with a change in Mannheim. Check schedules on site
www.bahn.de
No advance reservation is needed, just buy the ticket at the station before boarding the train.

hey.. if you arrive at 6am the next trains would be at
7:11 , 8:01, 9:11, 10:01, 11:11, 12:01 ...
there's no problem you should only go to the ticket service at the main
station in stuttgart and there you get all information you need :)
the trip with train from stuttgart to baden baden needs two hours.
i wish you a wonderful time in stuttgart ;)
Travel Tips for Stuttgart
Grocery carts
by seoulgirl
When you want a grocery cart you have to put in a coin to release it from the chain of the other cart. You slide it either in the top or the front, depending on the cart. When you return the cart you slide the key back in the slot to get your money back. Do this whole thing before you go in the store since you can't get out of the store unless you go through check-out which is always busy.

by Hatschepsut
3-DAY PUBLIC TRANSPORT TICKET (VVS)
The VVS 3-Day Public Transport Ticket covers all means of transport operated by the VVS (Stuttgart public transport authority) - rapid-transit railway, city trains and buses - and can be used without restriction by one adult and 2 children (aged 6-11) on three consecutive days in the Stuttgart inner zone including the airport.
The ticket costs Euro 8,50
The extended version of the ticket costs Euro 14,-
and is valid for the entire VVS network including the Stuttgart region
Wasen
by Beograd
Before I came to Germany to live, Octoberfest in Munich was the only beer festival I knew of here. But I've been told that Stuttgart has one that is as good and popular as the Munich one. In here, it is Wasen. What I also learned is that it's not a beer festival but a celebration of harvest just with a lot of beer thrown in! Everything is decorated in the theme of harvest with various vegetables, autumn colors and, naturally, livestock that is carried over from ancient times as a celebration of life.
You have pleanty of things to do here, but I suggest that you come in day time if you are with children because it gets very crazy and rowdy. Predominantly in a good way but non the less lot's of drunk people falling down. If you are not with kids, NIGHT TIME for sure!!!!!!!
In the picture you can see one of many tents where you can listen to traditional German music, have traditional southern German food (Schwabische and Bayernische with some austrian thrown in) and of course, drink traditional BIER (it's beer for you only english speaking ppl :)
Konigstrasse
by bugulma
Konigstrasse is the main street of the city. You may get shopping here, visit city museums and churches, look at the castles and it's nice place for family walking. Here is the main Tourist Bureau in the street, the Hauptbahnhof (train station). You may come to the street by most of S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains.
Kunstgebaude
by antistar
The Kunstgebaude (House of Art) can be spotted from the Oberer Schlossgarten or the Schlossplatz, and recognised by its distinctive domed roof, topped with a golden deer. The gallery hosts permanent and special exhibitions, with the permanent one being dominated by Hoelzel, but also other works by the likes of Otto Fritz, of Metropolis fame.
The Kunstgebaude is free to enter, and is open from 11am to 6pm, Tuesdays to Sundays, with a two hour extension on a Wednesday. It is closed Mondays, even on public holidays.
