What time are the shops open?

by AnnabelleLee

Hi! I am going on a business trip to Stuttgart next week, and I am wondering if the shops will be open after the office hours? I will be working near train station.

The main shopping street Königsstr. starts directly at the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station).

Kaufhof department store (close to the Haupbahnhof at the begin of Königsstr.)
Mo-We 09:30-20:00
Th 09:30-21:00
Fr-Sa 09:30-20:00

Breuninger (the biggest department store in Stuttgart and the 4th biggest in Germany)
Mo-We,Fr 10:00-20:00
Th 10:00-22:00
Sa 09:30-20:00

Thanks a lot for the info! It is really helpful to know!
Just one more thing - are there any pharmacies in these department stores?
I live in Sweden, and here almost everything is on prescription, and I thought of getting something from Germany.

No. But there are pharmacies close by.

I'm not sure if there is a big difference on this. Some things are only "apothekenpflichtig", i.e. you can buy them without a prescription but only available in pharmacies.

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Eat all your Food if you can:)

by seoulgirl

You will notice that the food portions are very large. No matter what type of restaurant (German, Chinese, Thai etc...) you go to they will make a comment if you don't eat all your food. It's considered an insult. Be that as it may, I still can't finish a whole plate.

The best way to get to...

by whenitworks

The best way to get to Stuttgart is by train. Though there is a good airport there, it takes time get into the heart of the city and it is really a pain to manage around your luggage when you have to move up and down in the S-bahn system. On the other hand, the trainstation is just in the center of the town and it is the end of all trains, which means you can sleep all the way until the anntandance wake you up.
If you have good driving skills, the area is equipped with good highway system, but be careful about the snow in winter and traffic jams in rash hour.

If you don't know how to drive but have a lot of time, VVS, the public transportation system is a good choice. In most cases, the buses and trains are punctuated and well spreat in the region. However, it takes people a little bit time to understand the system

Good value if you don't drink too much

by seoulgirl about Calwer Ech Brau

The ambience is very casual. We went to the buffet on Sunday and there was a large variety of choice, a salad bar, dessert area, hot dihses, cold dishes, breads, and such. Beer is extra and is good quality. I liked the salad bar actually, very fresh. The hot dishes were nice. We both had the pork with muchsoom sauce. I had roasted potato and Jeff had spaetzle with it. I had veggie too, beans I believe, well cooked.

The buffet was 6.90 a person and the beer was 2.40 or so per small glass. So, the beer is the money maker.

Fasching Parade

by seoulgirl

We went to a Fasching parade in Tubingen. The people dress up in costumes and parade down the street. There is alot of interaction with the crowd. They like to play pranks of children and just everyone. The witches like to pretend to steal the children and there's lots of candy thrown about. Plus there is some partying going on. Always some beers and liquor tents. There are many parades throughout Stuttgart. It goes on for weeks. We went into Reutlingen after the parade and people were honking there horns and shouting. Big party time.

Fabulous things

5 minutes away from “Residenzschloss” lies the "Favorite" castle built between 1713-1723 by Herzog Eberhard Ludwig. It has a baroque façade.

Besides the artistic wall paintings, the castle is surrounded by 72 hectares of woods and wildlife.
