Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Stuttgart the Wine Town

by suubi

For the wine connoisseurs and wine lovers amongst us, Stuttgart is the right catch. Come on and sample the fruits of summer at the popular `Stuttgart Wine Village`. More than 350 wines from Baden-Württemberg are sold in more than 120 lovely decorated wine bowers on the Marktplatz and Schillerplatz around the `Altes Schloss` (old castle). Typical regional specialities such as Maultaschen (meat and spinach stuffing in pasta pockets), Kässpätzle (swabian cheese noodles), Schupfnudeln mit Kraut (potato noodles with cabbage), etc. are served with the wine. The most delightful and largest wine festival in Germany goes on for ten days and eleven nights in Stuttgart.

One word: SUPERB

by jayhawk2000

Public transport in Stuttgart is about the finest I've seen in the world.

There is a dense network of trams, underground trains and buses to get you around the city quickly. It was also highly convenient for trips to outlying towns and the countryside.

Have in mind the final destination of your tram or train so you board from the correct platform. Some trams and trains run along the same track, but have their doors at different levels, so you need to board the tram from the low-level end of the platform.

Everything is operated on the trust system: you are entrusted to have bought a ticket in order to travel. So no queueing to board a bus and no getting stuck in turnstiles. Instead, plainsclothes inspectors board services to do spot checks. Just remember to endorse your ticket on board the train or bus by punching it in the yellow machine when you see one!

You can buy one ticket good for any mode of travel. At the time of our trip, a day ticket cost 4.90 euro for the central zones, 1 and 2. The dispensing machines offer instructions in different languages (press the 'flag' button to change languages) and accept some bank cards. Notes over 20 euro are not accepted.

Bored waiting for your train in the Hbf? Why not play with the train set?? See photo number 2!

Mercedes Benz Museum

by wroclawiak

I think that one of the must see activity in Stuttgart should be the Mercedes Benz Museum. It was built over 60 years ago. The Mercedes-Benz Museum is a major attraction to visitors from all over the world and was to me as well. It displays the complete history of the automobile from the very first car to the latest high-tech vehicle.
You can come by train or bus but you can leave the museum by your brand new car.
If you have not enough money to buy a real car you can choose one in a souvenir shop.
Free admission.

Eating cherries from a tree!!...

by Slydevil

Eating cherries from a tree!! Maybe this activity means nothing for those who live in the North Hemisphere, but for those from the South as me, it meant a lot. It was the first time I saw a cherry tree in my life, and eating a fresh cherry was so nice!!!

Cupola of the Art Building

by Nemorino

Here's a closer look at the Art Building (Kunstgebäude), from the Castle Park. The sculpture on the top of the cupola is a golden stag.

They used to have art exhibits here, one of which I went to a couple years ago, but it has been closed on my recent visits, except for the Café Künstlerbund in the southwest corner of the building.
