Bus from Hbf to Airport

by margsch

Many years ago I caught a bus from the Hbf to the airport but as both areas have undergone a lot of changes in that time could someone tell me if this is still the case. Where does one catch the bus? I am familiar with the Ausgang that leads to Koenigstrasse. It was a bus direct to the airport, not a suburban bus.

This bus does not exist anymore.
The airport is now connected with Hauptbahnhof by the S-Bahn lines S2 and S3.

Even better than that, the S-Bahn now goes from the Hauptbahnhof Tief (underground level) to the Airport. Take S2 or S3 to Flughafen. Trains depart every 10-20 minutes and take about 30 minutes. Cost from the Hauptbahnhof is EUR 3.

Take a look at http://www2.vvs.de/vvs/navi_efa_en/index.html to create a personalized itinerary.

Thank you both, as it was all a Baustelle last time I was there I did have a feeling the arrangements may have changed.

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Yummy!

by lilbunnygirl

In winter, you must drink plenty of Schokolade mit Sahne (hot chocolate with whipped cream). Whatever it is they do differently than we do in the US, it's delicious! I suspect the use of real whipped cream.

Electronic timetable

by JimKnopf

If you want to know when you must go out of the house to come to the right time to the VT meeting look at this site: http://www.efa-bw.de/nvbw/en_index.htm
and look for your online timetable. But be careful and have a little bit time if you must change between differnet public transportations. Sometimes the public transport comes later and you can't get the other bus or train because to change you haven't enough time.
Try the website.

Porsche Museum

by dsdarling

The Porsche Museum was awesome. It had La Mans winners, it had the original 1940's beetle that they designed and thus launched Volkswagen. It was an incredible exhibit. Small, but incredible. Four things that they could improve on in this area:
1. No Media - I would have soaked up a 10 minute presentation on design attitudes or about racing teams or something.
2. The Gift Shop sucked big time. The stuff was really lame or really expensive.
3. The plant tour that the websites say occur at 10 and 2 are by appointment only. The appointments are out 6 to 9 months the attendant told me. So I didn't get the plant tour. I am an engineer and was highly bummed.
4. No local cafe. After driving an hour to get there, I couldn't find a cup of coffee within walking distance of the plant. Open a cafe for god's sake!

What can I say - it's free!!

Take a trip to Tuebingen

by jayhawk2000

A bit further out but also worth the visit is the university town of Tuebingen with its church and castle towering above a beautiful old town full of quiet cobbled streets.

There are gardens to relax in, a river to paddle on, shops aplenty, plus cafes lining the cobbles which all make for a relaxing day out from Stuttgart. Or it's a worthwhile destination in its own right if you're travelling through the region.

More on my Tuebingen pages.

Schlossplatz

by Bigs

This square is one of the biggest in Stuttgart (I think) and because it's right in the middle of the city it's a meeting point for everybody.

On a hot summers day the many fountains are spending some refreshing. Or you can just sit down on a bench and watch the people pass by....
