Ludwigsburg Palace
by keeweechic
Ludwigsburg Palace in Ludwigsburg is one of Europe's largest baroque residences and is found in Ludwigsburg just north of Stuttgart. The Palace was built by Duke Eberhard Ludwig von Württemberg and he originally intended to only restore a hunting lodge that burnt down but by the time he died the buildings had become the most grandiose of all German palaces and a new town had developed. Ludwigsburg Palace contains a portrait gallery of the rulers of Württemberg and also their burial vault, a state art gallery and archives, the castle and regional museums, and a theatre. Concerts and an annual garden show are held in the castle and park. There are also two other castles, Favorite (1718) and Monrepos (1760) built within the Palace grounds.
I was there very early in the morning and it was freezing. A lot of the old part of the Palace is not heated! Thank god for hot air hand dryers in the bathrooms, I spent a lot of my time there thawing out. More in my Travelogue Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg (Baden-Württemberg), Schlossstrasse 30, D-71640 Ludwigsburg
Swabian Cuisine
by lmkluque about Zeppelin - Stuble
Close to the Hauptbahnhof, a block away. This elegant restaurant had many Swabian antiques and is one of the few places you can order food prepared in the Swabian style, each dish is individually prepared. Schnitzel, Fladlesupp, camembert, three glasses of wine and a tass kaffe. The food was much better here than at the train station.
Tents
by Beograd
As I was saying, lot's and lot's of tents with good beer, food and music so it's rather difficult to pick one! My hubby and I liked this one the most because of it's lively colors. It's owned by Klauss family and it's huge to the tune of 5000 guests! That is JUST GUESTS, not service staff which numbers in the hundreds themselves! There is also a rather large stage with pretty modern and uptodate lighting and sound system. Up to par with modern concert tour! Not to mention that the band is outstanding which also gets "happier" (as in beer happier :) as the evening comes because they do not hesitate to participate in their own festivities as they encourage the crowd to take part in the fun. They'll do beauty competitions, make everybodysing and dance, climb benchs', tables and at times, one another if they are "merry" enough.
Musical
by suubi
Are you a fun of musicals and can speak Germany? Why not go for "Dance of the Vampires" in the "IS-Zentrum"? The stage and the costumes are overwhelming. The musical is based on the 1967 film by Roman Polanski The Fearless Vampire Killers. It tells the story of Count von Krolock, a 19th century vampire whose passion is to win the body and soul of a beautiful 18-year-old virgin. Count Von Krolock's un-deadly intentions are upset with the arrival of the vampire killer, Professor Abronsius.
