hi Jonathan,
I see, You are already in Stuttgart. Hope You enjoy You stay. Well, there are so many option to take a walk round Stuttgart. But I guess for most You need more detailled informations one can give here in the forum.
Take a look here, that may help:
http://www.stgt.com/extern/wanderwege.htm
If You just wanna stroll arround I had three reccos:
Take the S-Bahn to Untertürkheim Bahnhof and than the bus (sorry, dont know the number) to Rotenberg. here You can do beautiful walks trough the wineyards, even at these days they look great.
Or take the Stadtbahn (no. 5) to Gerlingen and here here the bus uo to the castles Solitude. Beautiful view and nice walking in the woods.
Or take the S-Bahn direction airport, go out at Vaihingen Universität and walk down to the Bärensee (about 40 min one way). Here's a nice café for a rest, and than You can round the lakes and go back to Universität or walk an to Schloss Solitude and go downhill to Gerlingen and retourn to Stuttgart.
have fun

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Goggles too, maybe?

by Todd64

If you plan to do what I did all night long (see: Warnings) I would definately recommend bringing your favorite mop and perhaps a small hand towel. Stuttgart seems to be made entirely out of concrete which we all know is not the most absorbant of materials, so a good quality mop with a sturdy, non-slip rubber handle would be a smart addition to any drunk's travel kit.

To get to the TV Tower

by Bigs

I would recommend the tube or tram Nr. 15 to go up to the TV Tower. It's the oldest tram that is still in use. The way up to the hill is quite steep and scenic already and the old tram is making its way though many serpentines. I really liked it.

You haev to take the U-Bahn Nr 15 (for example from the main station) to RUHBANK, which is the last station on this line.

Schlossplatz

by bugulma

In the middle of Konigstrasse there is a Schlossplatz. It is enough huge area in front of new Schloss (palace). In the square you can find museum and art gallery as well. In winter there is skating-rink with little cafe where you can eat and enjoy gluwein.

Mercedes Museum

by aah_stone

This was one of my highlights of my short trip.

A free museum to see so many old and new Mercedes cars. Brilliant!!

I particularly liked the gulwing 300sl, beautiful.

The fast orange diesel cars were interesting too

They are opening anew museum soon - watch this space!

If you get thirsty as we did, there is a resonably priced cafe on site. Also there is a shop where you can buy your own minature car or other Mercedes merchandise. There is also oppertunity to buy a real Mercedes should you wish to :)

The State Capitol

by Nemorino

Americans, especially, are always surprised to learn that this square black three-story building between the Opera House and the New Castle is the State Capitol building.

Well, it is, because this is where the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg meets. There is also a nice café on the ground floor facing the park.

The building was built from 1959 to 1961. I took the picture from the roof of the Music University Tower across the street.
