Traveling from Karlsbad to Frankfurt

by VatheKia

Good day. I am going to be in Karlsbad for work in a few weeks and will need transportation from Karlsbad to the Frankfurt airport one weekday morning. I am not familiar with the Rail Transportation structure and would like to know if the train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt is via Karlsbad. Or if there is a means to get from Karlsbad or there abouts to Frankfurt airport.

Any information would be appreciated.

Kind Regards/Mit freundlichen Grußen;
Lisa

Did you try the website: http://www.reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/d

They have an english version too, if needed. I do all my train travel in Germany via that site. Careful if booking a connection starting with a regional train to an IC train - regionals tend to be a bit late, IC's are early. No big deal if you miss the connection, you can always catch the next train *as long as* it's not the last train of the day. ;=)

Karlsbad itself has no railway station but is connected by city train to the station in Karlsruhe. From there you can reach Frankfurt Airport within about 1 hour.

For a timetable look a www.bahn.de

Karlsbad is on the Albtalbahn railroad, a branch line served by the Stadtbahn line S11 from Karlsruhe.
http://www.kvv.de/kvv/documentpool/liniennetzplan/j09/lnetz_j09.pdf
S11 is in green. Direction 5 o'clock.
Karlsbad is a community founded by several villages in the 70's.
There are a number of train stops in Karlsbad
Langensteinbach Bahnhof
Langensteinbach St. Barbara
Spielberg
Ittersbach Industrie
Ittersbach Bahnhof
Ittersbach Rathaus

From: Ittersbach Bahnhof
To: Frankfurt Airport

To emphasize this again: Karlsbad is close to Karlsruhe, not Stuttgart, and the route to the airport takes you via Karlsruhe. No need to worry about Stuttgart. ICE trains from Karlsruhe to the airport operate every hour, either direct or with a change in Mannheim. This is the route Basel-Cologne, thus a well-served and busy main route.

The S11 takes you both to Karlsruhe train station and into the city within less than half an hour. Connections are frequent and run till late at night, so if you want to visit the city after work this can easily be done.

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Photo: Hohenzollern Castle is...

by AliJoe

Photo: Hohenzollern Castle is the ancestral seat of the German ruling dynasty.

Baden - Württemberg is an important business and industrial location as well; global companies such as Daimler - Benz, Bosch and Porsche have their headquaters here. Situated in a picturesque basin, the state capital Stuttgart enjoys an enviable location. From the * Liederhalle* concert hall to the Wilhelma Botanical and Zoological Gardens.

Hohenzollern Castle

by sniem

Hohenzollern Castle is about 1hr drive from Stuttgart. In my opinion it's Germany's most beautiful castle. As a matter of fact I've never really understood why everyone rushes to Neuschwanstein and most people haven't even heard about Hohenzollern Castle. But this makes it great for us visitors, you don't even have a tenth of the tourist crowds.

I took the pic frrom the House of Hohenzollern website haven't flown over the place yet.

Glass Pavilion at the Opera House

by Nemorino

Here’s a tasteful (in my opinion) combination of old and new architecture, the pavilion of the Stuttgart Opera. It was designed in the 1980s by the architect Gottfried Böhm.

Inside there is a large round counter where you can get something to drink or eat before the opera or during the intermission. (See previous tip.)

Access is from the foyers at the first and second balcony levels.

King Street

by hunterV

Koenigsstrasse (King's Street)
is the central shopping and business street in Stuttgart.
It's close to the railway station.
Even if you have little time for your stay in the city, you can go there and visit a lot of stores or just take a stroll and window-shop.

Fish Festival/ Hamburg Fish Market Festival

by seoulgirl

This was a very nice festival in the middle of Stuttgart. I had the best smoked salmon EVER here. They have fried fish and all types of other fish dishes plus sausages and wine/beer. There was a 3 piece band playing bluesy music if I remember correctly. Some fun music anyway. There was also a few vendors selling things like pickles, ice cream, and a French cheese truck. July 10-20 2008 Karls Square.
