dvd store

by margsch

I will soon be in Stuttgart and wish to revisit a shop where I bought a good range of dvd,s, the shop was over several floors and sold televisions, videos, dvd,s etc and is in a side street off Koenigstrasse. I think the shop may be called something like .....markt but could be wrong. Could someone tell me which street this shop is in as I honestly no longer remember where it was. It was quite near the Kaufhof. If there are other stores with a good range of DVD,s Iwould like to know, is Lerche still there? The sort of DVD,s I want are concerts of classical music for example Andre Rieu as we don,t get them in Australia.

Media Markt is what you're thinking of on Arnulf-Klett-Platz, right across from the Hbf and veering to the right off Konigstrasse as you leave the station.

Saturn is another good chain, more likely to have a bigger range of classical music as they are a bit more upmarket. Their main outlet in Stuttgart is at 26 Konigstrasse. Happy travels!

Thank you Jayhawk, I can rest in peace now!! It was driving me nuts trying to think of the place and you are correct. I hadn,t heard of saturn but will pay them a visit also. I have absolutely no sense of direction and had visions of myself wandering all over the place looking for the shop and I just don,t want to waste my precious time there.

You do realize that you may not be able to play the DVD's you buy here, unless you play them on a modern computer drive, or get them ripped? Germany has Country Code 2 (if I'm not mistaken), and Australia/New Zealand has a different country code.

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

Esslingen

by antistar

On the far flung reaches of Stuttgart's outer suburbs is the old imperial city of Esslingen. Once a proud medieval city, it is now incorporated into the environs of greater Stuttgart. While this means it has been encirled by industry, and picked up a few other of the blights of modern suburbia, it still has a fine collection of historic buildings, including the stunning Stadtkirche St Dionys. It's an easy journey from Stuttgart, between 12 and 17 minutes on the train or S-Bahn. It is outside the central 10 and 20 zones, so you will need to make sure your ticket covers the journey. The standard all dayers won't, but if you buy the full StuttCart, you will be fine.

You can read more about the town on my Esslingen page.

for halal food

by egain about Orient

This one is in Bad Cansttatt just a train over from Hauptbanhof. The good thing is just opposite the U-Bahn station. Meals are good but I especially love the background music they have..which is mainly middle eastern instrumental.

There´s variety of middle eastern delights. And they also have Meal set only for €4,80 which includes soft drink and fries. The tea and coffee is refillable. Opens till midnite Love doner kebab, hamburger (it´s hard to get halal meat burger), Yufka, and cäy (tea)

Kloster Bebenhausen

by aminata

Bebenhausen is a small village near Tuebingen. You can walk there. Enjoy the beautiful old monastery and the castle. The whole little town is under heritage. Its like walking through an old medieval village in the past.

New Castle

by bugulma

New castle is close to old one but looks more powerful. Besides there is large square in front of it with some monuments. Now it's ministry of culture. The building works lasted from 1746 till 1807 by architects Nikolaus Friedrich Thouret, Leopold Retti und Philippe da la Goepiere.

Friedrich Schiller monument

by hunterV

Friedrich Schiller, a great German poet, is especially beloved in the city. There are two monuments to Schiller: one in front of the Opera Theater and another in Schiller Square opposite the Old Castle.
