Cannstatter Volksfest: Distance from Stuttgart Main Train Station and Hotels

by retiredby40

Hi All,

Couple questions 1) How far is the Cannstatter Volkfest from the Stuttgart main train station, and 2) what hotels would you suggest around a) the Volkfest and b) the Stuttgart main station (going to have a 11am flight out next morning, want getting to the airport to be a simple process). Thanks so much.

Stuttgart S-Bahn and Stadtbahn map
http://www.vvs.de/download/71.pdf

1)
a) Stadtbahn (U9 or U14) to Staatsgalerie, changing there to the Stadtbahn U11 which goes directly to the Canstatter Wasen (the fest grounds). Travel time 16 min.
b) S-Bahn or regional train to Bad Cannstatt station (4 min). And walking from there to the Wasen (12 min).

2)
a) not much options
b) http://www.stuttgart-tourist.de/ENG/hotels/hotels_buchen.htm

The airport is connected by the S-Bahn lines S2 (red) and S3 (orange). Thus a hotel near a stop of these two lines will be a good choice. The Hauptbahnhof and Bad Cannstatt station are served by by both lines.

I will be attending the Volkfest also and read on a Stuttgart website that the U11 will be a special for the Festival and go directly to the grounds from the Hauptbahnhof. Bad Cannstatt is not far from the centre of the city. Go into google and find meinestadt Stuttgart and click on hotels, there are a number of hotels near the station including the Intercity hotel which is in the station itself.

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

TV Tower

by egain

At the moment, the TV tower is closed until November 2005 for renovation/restoration.

We were there last 2 weeks with our guest. Too bad we couldn´t show her. But still it´s a nice walk in the woods. and the weather has been great too. Even the children´s playground is close too. Lucky for me that I´ve managed to go on top of the tower last few months.

€3,00 for adult ticket ..that´s not bad.

P/S: children´s ticket is €1,50 plus there´s a cafe up there.

Maultaschen for Lunch

by daryll about Any Guesthouse

Hot food, recommended is famous maultaschen dish. It sort of like a pasta soup dish (more or less like tortelinini with broth). What makes it so delicious is the filling contains cheese and spinach. Sprinkle on top with fried red onions. Seems to be like fusion mix oriental and italian style.

Wilhelma - Zoological and Botanical gardens

by sabsi

Nice old fashioned zoo. Great old buildings and green houses! It was build for the king Wilhelm I of Württemberg in 1842 - 53 as a Mauritian garden. And it still looks like then a bit. I will never forget the smell in one of the greenhouses full of flowers!!

Schauspielhaus der Wurttemburger Staatstheater

by antistar

Literally the theater at the theater, this is the section of the State Theater that has all of the plays. It was built between 1959 and 1962, by the architects Volkart, Placking and Perlia, and contains 841 seats. The steel sculpture outside is by Bertoni, and entitled "Bewegung", or Movement.

Stuttgart TV Tower is also...

by Taitsu

Stuttgart TV Tower is also quite an experience, if you are not scared of hights!!!!! High up the lift goes and you can view the whole of Stuttgart, the hills, the valley... But: I wouldn't recommend going there on a windy day though!!!
