My son has been stationed there, and I'm looking for other parents who've also got sons or daughters there. Have you been or are you planning to visit? I've been researching the area and plan to go later this year. (too bad I can't go before March, airfare is only about $400 from Memphis right now!)
We appreciate his service. There are several flight deals right now even for April. I know United and American are having a mini fare war right now. Consider checking out going into Frankfurt, then taking a train south to Stuttgart. Its really easy to do, and flights to Frankfurt are much cheaper.

Biddy Early's - typical large dark and woody Irish bar cellar. Kleptomania got the better of me & I took the Bailey's glass back to Dublin with me - oops :) ...yes the drink was _that_ good :)
View of Stuttgart & the Neckar valley & moi, a newly converted redhead (but never again!) Casual.
Sydney's have very good food. Emu, crocodile, shark, turkey and other good things. Good wine and beer. Very nice ambiance. Not so special? - The price.

Yesterday I was again there, I only can commend it. But before you go there book a table. If you don't book it will run the risk to sit at the bar or can't have dinner there. Ned Kelly
It's the first church in the Land Baden-Wurttemburg that had Reformation in 1523. The foundation of the church dates bac to XII-XIII century. The city guides say it's the one of city symbol. It was full destroyed in World War II times but then was re-built exactly.
Carnival in Southern Germany is quite different from carnivat along the Rhine in Cologne, Mainz and Duesseldorf. We call it "Fasnet " or "Fasnacht" and people don't shout "alaaf" but "narri narro" and all kinds of other stuff.
Here the witches and other strange creatures are the most important part of the processions. The costumes are very traditional and people wear "beautiful " hand carved wooden masks, that have been bequested within the families for generations.
Stuttgart has a large procession on Carnival Tuesday and afterwards people go to the bars to party. The best party spot is "Calwer Eck Br?u" but you have to be there very early to get in. "Paulaner" also in Calwer Strasse is also good for partying on this day.
If you want to see the real traditional "schwaebisch-alemannische fasnet you have to go to places like
- Weil der Stadt
- Rottenburg
- Rottweil
or Villingen Schwenningen.
