Bad Canstatter Volksfest
by jayhawk2000
We had an absolute blast at the harvest-time festival, the second largest 'Oktoberfest'-style event in Germany!
The central tower harks back to the festival's beginnings as gift from the ruling dukes to locals after a good harvest ended years of famine. The tower is like a 'horn of plenty' that welcomes visitors with the promise of a cornucopia of delights!
Next to the tower is a ferris wheel. This is the 'small' one, there's another one that is said to be the largest moveable wheel in the world. Beer, sausages, beer, hot fresh crepes, more beer, pizza, er, more beer...
Prosche Museum is located next...
by l_joo
Prosche Museum is located next to the Porsche factory, five miles from the city centre, the museum is dedicated to the one million Porsche sports cars built since 1948. It has a wealth of classic production and racing Porsches on display, as well as new models and prototypes that never went into production.
Superb quality kebabs
by Bewohner about Arsalans Kepab
This review comes from visits in August and September 2007.
casual place on busy street corner with counter service, excellent quality döner kebabs and particularly the iskender kebab platter, portions here are a bit smaller than I would prefer and the prices seemed high, easy enough to grab a great kebab for takeout, but they also have nice tables and a tea set-up for dining, they have a lunch buffet that looked quite good but I did not try, the behind-the-counter service is a bit oddly standoffish, but the kebabs here are at a superb level of quality that I rarely encounter—no doubt I would return for that reason alone This is a great place to try the iskender kepab platter--which includes lamb slices over pide bread with a tomato sauce. Quite delicious here--thought the small portion is a bit too small.
The Jubilee Column

This column I think is very impressive, right in front of Neues Schloss. It was erected in 1841 commemorating the Silver Jubilee of King Wilhelm I
Go up and look closely at the base of the column, where you will see
Onion Festival in Esslingen
by seoulgirl
Another town outside the main city of Stuttgart, SE about 10 mins. drive or 20 mins. by train. It's a very picturesque town. It's on the 8-18 th of August 2008. Please see the website. They have alot of events, Karaoke, Country night, and such. There are menus on the page too under speisekarte. So lots of food, entertainment and wine. Hang out with some locals.
We went in 2008. It was a Sunday and it was really crowded. It's basically a circle of restaurants serving their specialties, some had massive kitchens they had moved there. In one area was the jazz band. We found the food and beverages prices to be high and it was hard to find a seat. A weekday would be a better time to go.
That part of Esslingen is very beautiful.
