The best, and most reliable, online booking system for Stuttgart hotels is offered by the tourist office, and they have the largest selection too. It's very easy to use, and with instructions in English. If you choose to book the hotel, it will show you how many rooms are still available, which will give you an idea of how long you can take considering your options. You don't have to book immediately upon clicking book. Once you decide to go ahead and book, the hotel won't be paid for, it will only be secured by your credit card. You can pay when you get to the hotel.
I found a good, cheap, central hotel this way, one that all the other commercial databases ignored for more expensive options.

The place is a little grubby, and I was disappointed to not find the advertised DSL connection for my laptop, but it was cheap, central, and had satellite TV, even if the quality of the reception was a bit rough. It also squeaked and creaked. Every floorboard creaked, the bed squeaked, and pretty much everything that moved creaked and squeaked too, but the place was very clean, and very good value. The owners too were friendly and helpful, and spoke enough English for us to get by. The best thing about the hotel, though, was the drinks machine on the stairs, which sold top quality Dinkel Acker beer and Pils. A real life saver, and a total novelty for me.
The hotel is very easy to get to. Just take U14 from the central Hauptbahnhof to Metzstrasse. When you get off the train, carry on a little further up Neckarstrasse, and you will see the hotel on the left. You can also walk to the center in about 10-15 minutes, and it is a pleasant stroll, past the Planetarium and Staatsgalerie.
For more information on the hotel, check its entry in the tourist information offices hotel database.

BB City Hotel: Home away from Home
We stayed in a suite with a kitchenette with bathroom and double bed. It had a gorgeous view or the park in Boblingen. It was super clean and very very nice. We stayed for 3 weeks at 58euro a night, it was worth ever penny. Breakfast is included.
The location can't be beat, 8 mins. walking to main bus station and s-Bahn. Buses are just outside the door also. There are many many restaurants and bars within mins. You just can't beat this place for value and quality.

Marriott: Marriott Sindelfingen
The service is top notch in your room. They have turn down service, re-stocking of the mini-bar every night, maid service, and room service.
Service in the lounge was awful. We waited forever for a really expensive hamburger. The buffet which was included in our room is excellent. It's has a large variety and has eggs to order.
Negative thing: In the executive lounge there are alot of American military families that take over the place and are loud and obnoxious. Kids should not be allowed in there. There is a kids lounge on the lower floor.
Negative: These same people bring there dogs!!!! Not to the lounge but in their rooms. Ask to not be put next to people with dogs and kids!!!
ON THE EXECUTUVE FLOOR NO. 7 you get your mini bar stocked for free w/ beer and soda. There is also an executive lounge that provides a nice breakfast during the week and drinks(beer, wine, booze too)/snacks at night for a couple hours. The bed is super comfortable with 6 big pillows. Airconditioned also.

Somebody shoot me,...please?
When your head is pounding and your stomach feels like you've swallowed an old Woodchuck, any little 'hole in the wall' will do.
2 cigarettes, a few pop-top pulls and 1 Mark for room service.
It's an interesting observation, but when you start to drift-off in a hole in Germany, people just don't seem to notice all that much. What I learned to really appreciate about these particular lodgings were the ample leg-room, plush interior and gracious head-space; all extremely luxurious and sinfully sumptuous. Unfortunately room service was a bit slow, and the menu a little sparse, but the price was right: for 1 DM, I could have half a Kuchen, a rather large orange peel, a stick of gum and 1/4 cup of cold coffee, and when the maid came 'round to sweep I found her/him to be courteous, efficiant, and I was quite pleased to learn that she/he didn't lift my wallet.

Gasthof Keilbach: Alternative in Sindelfingen
Hotels in Sindelfingen fill up fast due to all the businesses in the area. This guesthouse is in a prime location and is inexpensive. You have to share a bathroom but the rooms are very clean and nice!! The owners, Elena and Christof are very nice, Elena speaks Engish well and they both speak German and Greek, she speaks Georgian also. It right next to the big park just 5 mins. walk from the town center. Also there is a nice big beergarten across the street, open in the summers. There is a bar downstairs and Elena cooks also, Greek and German.
Clean, great location, cheap, nice owners, big rooms, bright and cheerful.

Best Western Hotel Berlin: Another hotel in Sindelfingen
This hotel is very nice with breakast included. The rooms are huge and very very nice.
The location is very good if you want to take the train (Sbahn or Ubahn, can't remember what one is near), it's just around the corner. It's up on a hill. There are a few restaurants around and a mini golf course. We had fun there.

I stayed with a Family
I didn't stay in a hotel but with friends at Dettingen. They had a delightful home which was actually three levels although from the street it looked small.
My friends from Singapore occupied the top level of the house and I had that all to myself (thank you Martina and Tomas). Claudia, Hans and Daria had the ground floor level. Both were complete homes. It was very warm and hospitable.
The basement housed the laundry and I think kind of a rumpus room. The back of the house was lovely with balconys overlooking the valley.

I came here for a year as a part of my studies. If you are planning something similar, Stuttgart University's hall of residence is not a bad starting point in your accommodation search. I am pleased with my choice, but there are some awful houses, so it's worth checking the house out first!!!!!

To book a hotel, it is recommanded to go to the Tourism office. There you will be able to make your choice. They also provide package including train tickets. Ask for a three-day ticket when making the reservation. It cost around 20 marks and allows you to use all the public transportation tools within the Stuttgart Region.

Marriott: smells bad, even in the winter
Computers are usually down, they usually get your food order wrong, the place smells like a sewage plant in areas, some rooms are always cold, some always hot, the staff doesn't seem to communicate with eachother, so more than likely you'll get overcharged unless you're careful.
Pool is usually full with moms and babies because of swimming classes. Within walking distance to fast food, restaurants and grocery store.easy driving distance to malls and downtown sifi. 20 minute walk to downtown.
