Blackforest day trip

by markal

I will be in Stuttgart for a few days in early September. Would like to do a day trip by bus or rail into the black forest. Is this a possibility from Stuttgart?

Certainly. Would you rather do some hiking or just see another city, more beautiful than Stuttgart?

In the latter case, you could take the train to Freiburg, see the old town and walk around Schlossberg to enjoy a beautiful view over the city and parts of the Black Forest.

If you are more into hiking, you could take the train to Baden-Baden and then change for bus 242 to Kaltenbronn. Baden-Baden is worth a visit, too.

Alternatively, take the train to Karlsruhe, then change for "Murgtalbahn" (kind of a tram) S31 or S41. Deboard wherever you like between the two stops Gensbach and Gausbach.

Tickets: The Laenderticket Baden-Wuerttemberg could be of interest for you.

From Stuttgart you can also take the train south (direction Rottweil/Donaueschingen) and then venture into the Black Forest by local trains and buses. For example you could go to Freudenstadt, that town is already in the centre of the Black Forest, and from Stuttgart it takes only 1:20 h to get there.

If you already know to which places you want to go, just go to the railways website, there you also get the bus connections:

Travel Tips for Stuttgart

The heart of Stuttgart

by suubi

The Palace Square (Schlossplatz) is not only the core of Stuttgart city center but also one of the most beautiful forecourts in Germany. It is spacious and beautifuly laid out and a meeting place in summer for people who are hungry for the sun. The annual summer festival with rock concerts turns the elegant plaza into a pulsating couldron.

The Favorite Palace

by keeweechic

The Favorite Palace was originally built as a Hunting Lodge and pleasure palace in the midst of a richly forested park. It was built in conjunction with the extension of the Palace. It was only used occasionally during mainly the pheasant hunting season.

A great place in the city center with huge pizzas and low prices! Big menu with "normal" prices but special offers every week.
My pizza was 3.97 euro and the special dessert only 1.51 euro.

fantastic place! not that fancy but great for a dinner among friends. pizza with spinach

Christmas-Market

by Hatschepsut

In Stuttgart is a great and beautiful Christmas-Market. When I heard the first time, that Tourists are coming with buses to see it: I ´didn't belive. But now I know why: I didn't see a Christmas-Market like this.
It is very big.
You can buy many hand-made Christmas stuff.
There are many different hot-wines to drink.
In the middle you can find an ice rink.

Altes Schloss

by lmkluque

A different view of the Old Castle, in which the Count of Wurttemberg took up residence during the 14th century, has withstood much until the second world war when the palace was damaged severely and reconstructed into the splendid palace that stands today .
