I am currently applying for a short term post-doc visit to Germany , I plan to stay for 2 months in Tubingen (15-06-2011 to 15-08-2011) .
I intend to bring my two children (10 years) and Ahmed (8.5 years) , they speak Arabic, English and very little German. I appreciate your help in the appropriate way to engage them in any sort of school/ summer activities / etc during the working hours.
Re: kids activities
For the most part of your stay children in Tübingen will be in school. The Pentecost holidays are from 11th June to 25th June, but as they are very short, there are usually no special activities offered. The main holidays for the summer start late in Baden Württemberg, next it's 28th July to early September. So for the last three weeks of your stay you will be able to find a summer camp etc, but before it will be difficult.
Do you know any of colleagues yet? If they have children, they will know about football clubs or other sport clubs. At least your children can meet others in the afternoon.

There are a couple of very informative websites in the net that make planning a trip to Tübingen much easier! Some of them are in German only, but I have tried to find both German and English sites! Here we go:

Aerial views of Tübingen
If you like to enjoy some truly breathtaking views of Tübingen, you will have to climb up the 172 steps of the tower of the Collegiate Church (Stiftskirche), which is a little strenuous, but definitely worthwhile! You can see the river Neckar from there, the castle, the townhall and all those roofs of the old city of Tübingen.
Entrance fee is 1 € (and that ticket also entitles you to visit the tombs inside the church)!
The main facade, with its picturesque appearance, was completed in 1877. On the first floor you will find the Main Conference Hall; on the second floor is the Old Reception Hall. I think the major of the city had a speech in the balcoon you see on the pic.
Old Bible book
The interesting thing for me is that in Stiftskirche, near of the entrance, th old Bible lays on the table and you can not only to look at this but also to touch and to turn over the pages. For me it is wonderful opportunity :-)
Go to the castle
Climb up from the town hall square to the ornate gates of the castle and go into its courtyard and gardens to see the towers and stones.
The castle is home to a couple small museums, including the university's classical gallery, but there is a small admission fee to these and on such a nice day as our visit it didn't seem appropriate to spend it indoors!
The view from the gardens atop the battlements is free and is the perfect spot for a picnic, sketching or canoodling...
