The Impossibly Tall Gabled Medieval Buildings
by antistar
My first visit to Tubigen was so long ago that I barely remember any of it, and I was surprised to find little that jolted it when I returned 18 years later (good God was it that long ago). What I do remember of it the first time around, clearer than anything, were the tall gabled houses, which were like nothing I had ever seen before. They stretched impossibly into the sky, leaning over the tight alleyways of the town, like they would collapse in on you at any moment. Some would be seven or eight stories tall, incredible for their age, and then you would see them from the banks of the Neckar river, climbing up the side of hills. Their sheer drops at the base of the house, and the reflections in the river, would make them seem twice as high again.
A Note on Mineral Water
by JetlagCity
I've heard Americans are known for carrying bottles of water around with them, and I am no different. I quickly discovered that in Baden-Wurttemburg, mineral water may actually taste like minerals - it was like drinking water from a hot springs (at least to me). It's also often carbonated. Apparently this is popular here, and it's all that's available at some restaurants and bars. I tried it a few times but it didn't seem to suit me, so I quickly learned to buy my own bottle of plain water to carry with me, after spending my first day feeling rather parched.
Maybe if I stayed here awhile I would eventually get used to it, you never know...
Platanenallee
by bugulma
There are wonderful views in Platanenallee that is situated in the island. Colourful line of houses, the Hohentuebingen castle, Neckar River of course and the Platenenallee itself are available to enjoy here. I think it is more popular place for making photos than other parts of the city.
I don't honestly remember how...

I don't honestly remember how I found my way to wherever I was walking, but I found a set of stairs that led me up to the top of a hill where I found a dirt path that led me up and through hills and forests. There were some really rewarding views like the one in this picture.
Alter Botanischer Garten
by bugulma
Another wonderful place is the old botanic garden that is situated in the eastern central part of the city, between Am Stadtgraben and Rueminstrasse streets. Of course, it would be the more beautiful in summer or autumn but winter views of the park is worth seeing as well.
