Stuttgart to Tübingen

by sunset_gal

I will arrive at Stuttgart airport at about 1030 pm from a trip. I have to get to Tübingen and I dont think there are any more buses (no. 826) at that time. how much does it costs to take a cab to Lustnau at that time of the night and how long would it take? There are no trains right?

hi

the train will get you there till after midnight! check www.bahn.de as departure use "stuttgart flughafen" and as destination "tübingen hbf" (without "") so it will get you the connections from the airport. you will have to change trains at stuttgart main station (stuttgart hbf).

There are suburban trains at that hour, s-bahn, but you would need to change a couple of times which would make for a long journey in the middle of the night. VVS is the name of the stuttgart public transport and if you go into their website you can click on timetables then follow the prompts, it is available in English. I don,t know where you are flying from but at that hour of the night a taxi might make more sense as changing trains with luggage is a pain in the neck.

Travel Tips for Tübingen

Small but beautiful

by Gehoert

You should walk - if you come by train from the mainstation, if you come by car from the parkhouses Metropol or Neckarparkhaus - through the old part of the city. At the corner of the Neckarbridge you find the touristoffice, were you can get plans and information.
The Hölderlinhouse, the Stiftskirche, the house of Lordmayor, the castle with a view over the city an the landscape.
You are interested in culture and history.
In the castle you find some museums. And maybe the oldest musicinstruments of the world -three flutes 35000 years old. The Kunsthalle - up on the hill called Wanne - there are allways interesting exhibitions.

The AltStadt

by JetlagCity

Tubingen is a great place to spend the day just wandering around. All of the AltStadt (Old Town) area is very attractive and enjoyable, with many half-timbered houses. Some of my favorite places were the Stiftkirche (church), the view from the old Renaissance castle, and the Rathaus (Town Hall).
Also I can recommend the salads at a restaurant called Wurskuche, along with a wonderful apple cobbler & liqueur dessert.

Stiftskirche inside

Interior of the church is worth visiting. As one of the most important churches in W?rttemberg (due to the support of the Duke Eberhard) it has one of the nicest Gothic rod screens in South Germany, an altar of D?rer's pupil Hans Sch?ufelein; all was made in the end of XV century. I found info that the church was a kind of family tomb of the Wurttemberg Dukes since the end of XV century till the beginning of XVII century.

Silcherschule's pictures

Walking around the old city I went along Seelhausgasse street by chance and I saw these funny pictures on the wall. I looked at the map and realized it is a school territory. So it's wonderful idea I think to colour the school walls. Besides in such funny style :-)

Hohentübingen castle

by tini58de

Hohentübingen Castle was first mentioned in the 11th century. What you can see and visit now dates back to Renaissance times (16th century).

We did not visit the castle, but from what I read it really seems to be worthwhile visiting, not only for the views, but also for the castle itself and the museum.

There are quite a few University institutes inside the castle - mostly cultural studies! Wow, it sure must be fantastic to have lectures inside these ancient premises!
