Best area for bars/nightlife?
by dazsin
Hi,
I will be in Berlin this weekend. Is there a particular 'best area' for going out at night - for good bars/live music? I'm not particularlly bothered about nightclubs as such, just a lively area or 2.
Many thanks

Hi there,
for a great night out try Club der Visionäre www.clubdervisionaere.com. I think there are tips on that at the vt site as well.
Or Watergate Club www.water-gate.de for a great view on the Spree.
Best wishes from Berlin,
Stine

Travel Tips for Berlin
Visit the Checkpoint Charlie...
by tazmaniak
Visit the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, walk down Under den Linden, walk the path of the Berliner Mauer (The Wall) and enjoy the cafe society now maturing in this Euro-City. Take the ICE train into Zoo station to get a feel of what you are about to experience. Walking through the Tiergarten after an encounter with a psychic told me I would find something there! There was something there ...
Zitadelle Spandau
by bugulma
A week before my vacation I read about Zitadelle in the guidebook. I was so impressed and I wanted to see it. Zitadelle is situated in Spandau district (in 5 minutes by feet from Zitadelle S-Bahn station). The first fortifications here date back to XIII century. Last building works were in XVI century (by Ioahim II Hector) and since then no changes happened. Maybe it was a bit changed because in 1813 Napoleon had a battle here against Russian and Prussian Army on his way back to France. The place is really impressive and you can see some pics in the travelogue.
relaxing at the water...
by Dutch1980
Just across the street of the Haubtbahnhoff the centrall train station in the Centre of Berlin is a river and across the river there a lot of beachbars.
In summer is very relaxing to have a beer there and eat someyhing after a long day of walking trough Berlin.
So just go across the street of the Central Train station, go over the bridge and you will find it easy.
Old and new

One of the most fascinating things in Berlins is the co-existence of old and new, modern architecture, both small and large pieces of art.
Just one more example on my picture. Look at this modern sculpture put by New National Gallery (Neue Nationalgalerie) and neo-Romanesque Saint Mathew Church (1844 - 1846; renovated recently) in the background. I have no idea who created this sculpture. E-mail me please if you know.
We arrived one day earliy...
by lillapenguin
We arrived one day earliy before the parade began so we went out to sample the night life. We ended up in NO UFO's, an old warehouse that had been converted into a club. The line up was good, and the place was next to a river that was great for cooling off. Drinks were cheap, and we were given free Red Bulls as we were dancing at the front and didn't want to lose our place.
