Germanwings airline tickets 'basic' vs 'best'
Hello. I will be visiting friends in Berlin in mid May, and from there I'm thinking of taking a flight south to either Croatia or Italy, and working my way back to Berlin by train , with various stops along the way.
I've seen some good rates for flights on the Germanwings site, but they quote 2 prices, basic and best. Best includes 1 free luggage check, desired seat, and a snack & drink. The cost difference is about 20 Euros more for 'best'. If I only have a day pack that fits under the seat, and a small bag/backpack that fits in the overhead on most planes, would I be ok with just the basic ticket? Do airlines in Germany limit the number of carry ons? If I buy the basic, and when I get to the airport, if they make me check my luggage, would the cost be higher than if I bought the slightly more expensive ticket in advance?

They allow one carry-on of 8 kilo, but they are not as strict about the weight as Ryanair is.If you can fit all your stuff into one carry-on of no more than 8.5 kilo, you will - most probably - be okay. Be sure to watch the dimensions, it's 55 - 40-20 cm for the carry-on. This is checked more strictly than the weight.
If you have two carry-ons, one will have to be checked in. It's better to book the checked luggage online in advance.

Kaiser Wilhelm Church
Check out the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtnis Church, built in 1895 and bombed in 1943. This photo doesn't show it real well but the building has been left like it was after being bombed (as a reminder of the war I heard)...
Watch the "Berlin Polar Bears"
My favorite sport was ice hockey. Though still skating occasionally I have given up to be an active team member at the age of 24.
But I love to see ice hockey games. The Berlin Polar Bears (Eisbären) play in the top German Ice Hockey League. Last year (photo) they won against Düsseldorf Metrostars.
Play Off begins again in September 2006 with an outside match at Krfeld against the Krefeld Penguins Hire skates during public hours
Old and modern courtyard
I was very surpriced when I passed the gate at Bergmannstraße 102 to find Colours second hand store at Kreuzberg district (U-bahn: Platz der Luftbrücke/Gneisenaustraße).
I turned back at the backyard and I saw just one more and interesting example of co-existing old and modern architecture in Berlin - look at my picture, please. Controversial? Not in Berlin :-).
Best Club in the World
I was wondering why this tip was getting such a poor rating, but during my research for my upcomming party trip to Berlin, shock and horror hit me as I found out the club closed/moved in April. They now stage parties at different venues (check their website) but I don't know if they still have the unique claustrophobic touch they had in their old home.
This is the best club I've ever been to. It was a transformed vault 15 m underground, which on one hand makes you wonder about fire safety, but then how is wet concrete gonna catch fire. One end of the room was a speaker wall and appart from some strobes and lights, that seems to be the only thing they'd added. Upstairs there were a less claustrphobic dancefloor and a chill out garden. The music were hard core pure and simple.
It always seems packed, but even on Loveparade night we've always managed to get in without having to wait too long
