Private Accommodation

by sabsi

My friend Sonja's flat sharing community just off Ku-Damm. There's always a floor for me to sleep on.... or even a bed!! That's why I can't really recommend accommodation...

We stayed in a hotel in Spandau once which was basically a kip and overpriced.... From what I heard Hotel am Anhalter Bahnhof is good value and Propeller Island is a great arty place!
0 DM :-) Always a fridge full of Diet Coke, lots to laugh and talk about and a warm welcome!!!

by Ritchie_Lionheart about Brauhaus Spandau

Great fun, beer, food and music, bet it for brunch, lunch or a night of fun. Spandau itself is a great district, easy to reach by U-Bahn, train, bus, tram or...boat. In fact, Spandau is surrounded by lakes and rivers, famous is its town hall and the setting is really picturesque.

Mississippi in Berlin-Spandau

by Maria250 about Mississippi

Haven't been there though the name alone - MISSISSIPPI Spandau - is most tempting!!
They do provide a very nice webpage!! YET no information in English translated, duh!

Spandau prison

by geordieontour

hi everyone coming back to berlin for the 5th time in easter, anyway is spandau prison where Hess was imprisoned still there and open, and what other interesting sites are there in Spandau to visit

RE: Spandau prison

by Buckz

I believe it was demolished immediately after his death, (not exactly a monument to anything positive.) Google should tell you. Berlin has very little WWII history- much more cold war stuff.

There is a new Holocaust Museum. Museum Island is wonderful. Ka Da We food floor is fantastic. The Zoo. CheckPoint Charlie Museum

In Spandau itself there is a nice castle in an island in the river.

This medieval castle is at the underground station "Zitadelle", take the line to "Rathaus Spandau". The prison was actually, as mentioned before, demolished after Hess` death.

To repeat something said above- the Museum at Checkpoint Charlie should be on every ones must see list. For Man's inhumanity to his fellow man, for the stupidity of narrow minded political belief, for Paranoia, Obsession & Xenophobia and for the triumph of hope and perseverance over all off these, the museum is brilliant.

Also useful on how to hide a body (in these cases a live one) in a small car.

I see you live in Berlin. Have you just moved there and want to check out the city? is great for looking for hotels. You only pay the hotel once you've arrived and their cancellation policy is really good.

1) 218 bus 2) Kladow to Luftwaffe Museum to Spandau...

by JHR

Going back to Berlin (for a fifth time) in May - this time acting as a guide for a friend who has never visited the city. Hoping not to embarrass myself with my ignorance and incompetence. These may be the first of several questions.

1) Assuming we wanted to find Nico's grave in Friedhof Grunewald-Forst, I reckon we would have to take a 218 bus to Schildhorn and then head off into the woods. Question: from the BVG website, the 218 appears be a special 'old-time' bus service. Are normal BVG day-tickets valid on this service? Or do you have to pay an additional supplement?

2) A possible excursion: S-Bahn to Wannsee, then ferry to Kladow, then Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow, then Spandau. Question: how do you get to and from the Luftwaffe Museum at Gatow on public transport? If it's possible by bus, which bus service(s) could we use? Which bus stop(s) should we get off and on at? I have a decent map, but I can't work out where the entrance to the Luftwaffe Museum is. Any advice much appreciated. (I'm now off to transfer my old vinyl copy of Rob Calvert's Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters to digital format, so that I can play it on my MP3 player, if I ever do make it to the museum!)

Re: 1) 218 bus 2) Kladow to Luftwaffe Museum to Spandau...

by Turtleshell

1) That's indeed a "Traditionsbus" from the 60s or 70s respectively. But when it serves for BVG as bus 218, standard tickets are of course valid.

2) Bus 135 S+U Rathaus Spandau <> Alt-Kladow, exit at Seekorso / Luftwaffenmuseum

I found the entrance, and you'll find it too, no worries. Cross Seekorso (where the bus stops) and go down Am Landschaftspark Gatow or Am Flugplatz Gatow. Takes about five minutes.
