Gendarmenmarkt ~ The French and the German Dom
by Audrey118
There are two dupliocate doms at the Gendarmenmarkt - the French and the German Domes.
The French Dome - the French Cathedral was modeled after the Huguenot church in Charenton, destroyed in 1688. In 1785 the tower and porticos, designed by Carl von Gontard, were added to the building. It actually turned the church is to a twin sister of the Deutscher Dom.
The French Dome is probably the more famous becos it houses the Huguenots Museum which has a complete archives of the French Calvinists of whom 20,000 found refuge after the 1685 in Brandenburg - Prussia when they were slaughtered in France. The Huguenots who lived in Berlin in the early 1700s introduced satin industry and were also famous architects.
Upstairs there is a viewing platform and also a restaurant.

i went here with some spanish friends from the school i was studying at and we all found it really boring!
was a bit confused about what to do with the head phones they supply you with at certain parts of the museum. aparently they are supposed to work when you walk past certain items or boards - but they didn´t
this museum actually left me to come away with an entirely different opinion of the religion and its people than i had before - which makes me sad - as i don´t think this was the reason it was built!
Paris in Kreuzberg?
by matcrazy1
The most beautiful bridge I saw in Berlin was called Admiralbrücke. Drive southwards Admiralstraße towards Landwehrkanal.
The bridge was covered by coblestones and equipped with old-fashioned street-lamps. It looked like Paris at some places. Am I wrong?
just when you are not looking, you find one

I had done some research on brewpubs in Berlin and it seemed there were quite a few of them. But evidently, they weren't so great as a couple had closed in the interim. The one we had found had awful beer and was full of tourists obviously believing they had found a true German experience and not knowing squat about beer. Doreen wanted to bring me to Potsdamer Platz and I really didn't want to go but appeased her. It actually was quite spectacular and in the mall, there was a brewpub I had never heard of. I was apprehensive but all the beers were quite good including a very true to form weizen and interesting zwickle beer.
