Last Christmas in Berlin question!

by Hellfirejen

Thanks for all the help so far guys, just one more...

Can anyone suggest a good restaurant we could book to get a meal in on Christmas Day?

Thanks!

Jen

Could you specify the area and, perhaps more importantly, how much you are willing to spend on a meal? What kind of cuisine do you prefer?

Re: Last Christmas in Berlin question!

by Hellfirejen

Sorry, it looks like we are staying in a hotel not far from Potsdamer Platz, so somewhere around there. As for price, that isn't really an issue, as long as its not at the higher end of the market, reasonable, but not ridiculous.

Thanks!

I don't think you want to spend 100 Euro on a 4-course meal? I ask, because most restaurants around there are gourmet restaurants. If that's ok for you, and want to try one without a dress code, I'd say leave your money at the Facil. This would be inside the Mandala Hotel at Potsdamer Platz.

Gugelhof is for restaurants what VW Golf is for cars: classless - no-one has to justify why he/she is dining at Gugelhof. I invited business partners to Gugelhof when I had no clear idea what he or she likes, if he comes in a suit and tie or in Jeans. You could spot President Clinton there, next to students, next to business people.

It's 20 minutes away (subway), though.

In any case, you should ask if they open on Christmas.

Small point Christmas is celebrated on the 24th in Germany not the 25th like UK and USA.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Berlin Tower

by CandS

Take the lift to the top of the Berlin Tower and you will get a wonderful view of the city. The tower is 368 metres high and costed us about 8 DM to take the lift to the top.

I thought I would be scared of heights up on top of this tower but it was pretty good...the view is great from up there, we had a great day and could see a long way...it was well worth going for a look.

Berlin International Beer Festival

by der_geograf

The Internationales Berliner Bierfestival is a blast of a festival held near the Alexanderplatz. I counted 3 separate major stages where bands were playing, and the booths of beer vendors went on for blocks.

The beers were from everywhere, with Bavarian and Hessen companies having the strongest showing. But there were also (very good) beers from Kenya, Namibia, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, and elsewhere in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central America.

Check their website for future dates.

the most delicious music store

by miromi about Spacehall

My favorite store in Berlin has a basement full of vinyl, and the clerks that work there are fairly knowledgeable and can recommend good plates. I also adore the CD girls upstairs. They have an especially good selection of London stuff, but you can find most anything here! This is always nice to visit on a Saturday when going shopping in Kreuzberg, and riding my bike home with Spacehall records is one of the swellest memories I will ever have.

David Lynch-like landscape in Berlin

by anacapa about Green Door

An intimate space. The long narrow bar screams for the sublime bizarre to occur. Not that it will happen to you, but it must happen regularly here. If Lyle Lovett had a taste for Europe, I think he'd like this place. It is a man's bar, but not overtly masculine. The long bar has a seductive curve to it. It's a sexy place in that it is slightly mysterious. You're not sure what you've walked into, but you do want to stay and see what happens. Dress to impress. At least wear clothing with buttons. No T-shirts or you'll muck the magic.
