http://www.easyjet.com

If I'm not mistaken they fly from Berlin-Schönefeld to Budapest. In any case try Malev (http://www.malev.com)aswell, sometimes the traditional commercial airlines are cheaper than the budget ones.

try easyJet. www.wegolo.com and www.skyscanner.com will help with discount airlines on this route.

www.whichbudget.com and www.harefares.com are both excellent for finding budget carriers within Europe (better than skyscanner, imo).

You should be looking/booking now for October.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Pharmacies' Emergency Service: Apothekennotdienst

by Bernhadette

In every quarter of Berlin there are always a few pharmacies, that offer an emergency service at night and on holidays. The pharmacies take turns every night according to the plan for the "Berliner Apothekennotdienst".

Usually it's not the pharmacy store that opens as a whole, but the pharmacist will come to the door upon call. You have to ring a bell at the pharmacy's main entrance. Then the pharmacist will open a small window in or next to the door and ask you for your wishes.

You can look up the plan and addresses at the following site (in German):
www.gesundheit-berlin.de/index.php?aponot=1

If you have no internet-access and you want to make sure that you have the plan always at hand, you can ask at any pharmacy for a printed brochure ("Apothekennotdienstplan", monthly) beforehand.

Drink a 'Berliner Weisse' in...

by isolanthui

Drink a 'Berliner Weisse' in Summer! Berliner weisse is known as the champagne of beers. The Berliner Weisse style has a pronounced sour taste, and is very pale, effervescent, and lightly hopped. The acidic characteristic is central to Berliner Weisse. Modern versions are less sour, with no esters. Berliners often add to their weisse a dose of sweetened raspberry syrup (which turns it red) or woodruff syrup (which turns it green) to balance the acidity. Weisse is often considered a summer drink.

Go to Tempelhof air port - an old air port in the middle of the city who used the Germans in WW2. It will be closed soon. The big painting in the entrance shows the American flying aid to west Berlin during the Soviet seige on the city.

Volksbühne on Rosa Luxemburg Platz

by anacapa about Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz

Check out the irony in the photo. The wind wouldn't cooperate, but the umbrellas out front say West while standing proudly behind them is a beacon of Ost Berlin. East vs West. I wish the wind had cooperated, or that I had more patience with the shot.

Definitely a place to go when in Berlin. The architecture of the place breathes energy. I loved seeing performances here. Always something challenging. And afterwards, head over to the Rote Salon on the left (naturally) or the Grüne Salon on the right for an all night cap. Just writing about these places makes me want to go back. Do as Europeans would, wear a shirt with buttons and closed toed shoes. Add a bit of urban hip and you're set.
