Terry's Top Hat Tours
They leave from the Circus and Alexandraplatz everyday at 10am and 3pm - not sure if both all year round.... Doner kebabs.
YUUUUUUUUMMMMMY
No seriously. I had the Terry as a tour guide and he was amazing. He lived here during the thick of alot of Berlins history and his stories are all real and true and most bring a tear to his eyes (and mine too - hey I'm a girl what do you expect?)
Schnapps drinking
by nigelw6443
Quite often if your order a schnapps it will come in a miniature bottle. The tradion is to tap the bottle upside down on the table then unscrew the cap, place this on your nose , then put the bottle in your mouth tilt your head back and drink!
Dead Chicken Alley, Best Damn Gallery in Europe
by Rude_boy22
Walking into an alley filled with graffiti can sometimes have a good outcome. My curiosity spurred by a sign that said "Dead Chickens", I made my way down this alley lit by a long light.
Past a cafe, and into a great comic book shop that sold CDs and great dada works. Behind there was a great gallery with plenty of very creative works. Downstairs from the comic book shop is a small cinema that showcases independant cinema. What a find!
But it didn't end there. in the alley, I saw some graffiti that said dead chicken this way, I followed it into a dingy cellar. This curiousity of mine is a real danger, but for some reason I felt safe. It was closed. I walked back outside and saw some giant metal sculptures and a machine that accepted euros that had flowers in them. I decided to see if they worked and put a coin in. The sculptures started moving around and making lots of noise. The people nearby and I broke out in robust laughter.
The woman who ran the dead chicken gallery saw me laughing and decided to open up. Inside there were some great robotic things that moved around and did all sorts of weird things if you could find the way to turn them on. One shot a flame inches from my face when I pressed the foot control. I swear, this is the only country in Europe that was still into the whole DADA thing. BRILLIANT! Make sure to check out the website.
Where you can spend hours...
by Rahel about Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe)
The largest and most magnificent department store on continental Europe invites you to shop and window shop.
Its six floors are home to the famous food department, a conservatory restaurant under the roof, the well-known glass panorama lift and countless departments selling everything anyone could possibly want to buy. The store, built in 1906 to plans by Emil Schaudt, drew the shopping crowds in from the very start. During the Second World War, the building was almost completely destroyed, but it was opened again in 1950 and completely rebuilt six years later. In the 1950s, the Department Store of the West became the symbol of the market economy. Having undergone repeated redesigning and expansion, its appearance is as brilliant as ever. You can get everything there. Me, for example, I like the book store most. Time is flying when I'm in there. Just enjoy! It's not very cheap, of course. Go there not only to buy things, but also to watch them.
Lindenbrau
by PookieRabbit about Brauhaus
Brauhaus ("Brew Pub") located in the Sony Centre. Has 3 floors with some window seats obviously overlooking the inside of the centre. Also appers to have an outside terrace although this wasnt open during our visit (Dec/Jan).
Various beer options and good food. If in doubt get the "1 Meter Bier" which gets you 8 small glasses with 4 different types of beer (just under 15 euros).
