September Accomodation in Berlin
by holeday2020
I wanted to ask if anyone has information on a hotel which is good quality, quiet as regards the location and hotel itself, fairly centrally located in Berlin, though i don't mind walking to get a round sometime between the 20th September and the 3rd October as i was thinking of taking a holiday there for a week.
I have tried looking on both here and Tripadvisor but they personally appear very confusing as they looked at sites which kept saying nothing available for the dates, suggested other hotels with nothing and also suggested a place in Italy for some reason.
I did see that the Hotel Bogota was recommended and wondered about this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ian

It may be that you are finding no availability because the relevant search engines do not work so far in advance.
VT is primarily a site for travellers to share information and experiences.
I can't make a specific hotel recommendation, but whilst you are waiting for some (and I am sure you will get some helpful replies) I suggest you look at www.booking.com and www.venere.com Both are reliable sites with honest guest reviews, and allow you to refine your search by specific area within a city.
You can google for further TA or VT reviews of hotels which seem suitable.
I have also seen www.hotel.de recommended on these forums.

I can recommend the Hotel Kima, just off Ku'damm in a side street. We stayed there last year and really liked it. It is in a quiet area, but not far from a subway stop. Nice rooms, not expensive and a very friendly staff. Breakfast is included.
This year we stayed at Motel One, which is right in the centre at Alexanderplatz. It's a chain hotel, you get what you need, but it lacks the charm of the Kima. Of the two, I liked the Kima better.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
I stayed at Hotel Schweizerhof which is close to Kurfürstendamm in Budapester Straße, rather quiet, but also rather expensive. But just have a look at booking sites, you might get good deals.
A hotel I stayed several times because it is quiet and very good quality, and service super friendly, is Hotel Steglitz International. It is not centrally located but from there you are in the centres of Berlin (as Berlin has not only one centre) by subway extremely quickly, and the suburb of Steglitz itself is quite pleasant itself, also good shopping. Also check out on www.wotif.com and www.hrs.de for deals.

If you're looking for a nice Hotel in the city center very close to Kudamm, Kadewe, zoo etc. you can take "Sylter Hof" or "Amadeus am Kadewi" or Holiday Inn (Kurfuerstenstrasse)There is another very new motel one at Urania (the opened it two month ago) All of this hotels cost less then 70 Euro.
Take it without breakfast - it's normaly expensive and there are a lot of cafés arount all of this hotels where you can get a cup of coffee and more . . .
Have a nice trip!
Greetings from Berlin

Berlin Wall
by Audrey118
The Wall was built overnight...
Iagine waking up one day and you realise your family lives next block up, now lives across from wall and you have no contact with them anymore. The wall was not a circular wall it was rather a zig-zag one along ward lines and alley. It just appears out of no where.
Some parts have a 30-foot-tall concrete thing, with barbed wire - looks just like a killing zone of tank traps. But in others, especially up in the French Sector, it ran through what had been blue-collar apartment blocks, and in some were just the backs of those buildings.
A good place to see would be near the Potsdam Sq.

Hamburg Railway Station
by aliante1981
The Neo-Renaissance building of Hamburgerbanhof - or Hamburg Railway Station - is the oldest railway station in Berlin, dating back to year 1847. Of course, it was later reconstructed - having been empty and unused for most part of the time after World War II - with the help of the plans drawn by the architect Josef Paul Kleihues, when a further - new - wing was built in into the construction. The new building of the Hamburg Railway Station was opened to public in year 1996 with a new purpose - that of the Museum of Contemporary Art - and a new neon installations at the façade, these by Dan Flavin.

Quiet little German Bars (Mostly)
by Bushman23 about Nollendorf Platz
In and around Nollendorf Platz are a few nice, quiet German bars. we stepped into 3 of them for a drink, and found the atmosphere relaxing, and quite fun. The "Eldorado" was first, with a pool table on offer, and mid-range beer. We then moved on to the "Scottish Bar" (good combo - We were an American, an American & A South African, drinking in a Scottish bar in the heart of Germany...). Also, a very friendly atmosphere, and cheap beer. Finally we moved on to the sports bar across the road (with the tiniest TV on record)... Also a pool table here, and cheap beer.
Be slightly cautious as to which bars you may enter though. Berlin is supposedly the Gay capital of Europe, and unless you're that way inclined, there are Gay & lesbian bars all over the city. No discernable dress code at any of the bars
