  • our hotel room - Berlin
    our hotel room
    by sue_stone, 4 more photos
When we are only visiting a city for a couple of days I am always keen to stay somewhere very central, close to restaurants and a walk or short bus/train/tram ride to all the major attractions. Hence when I came across Arcotel Velvet I knew it was the perfect place for us.

Arcotel Velvet was also ideal for us as it is a 'design hotel', and we like staying in modern stylish places - when we can afford it! This hotel, in the heart of the Mitte district, was within our budget for the trip, so we stayed here for our 2 nights in Berlin and loved it.

The hotel staff were friendly and the common areas well presented. There is a cool looking bar on one side of the reception area, and a nice restaurant on the other, which doubles as the breakfast room. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was pretty good - a buffet with a decent selection.

Our room was very nice and had an interesting design. The bathroom was kind of 'open-plan' (except for a separate toilet) and was separated from the room by a billowing chiffon curtain. The large bed was very comfortable and there was a wall mounted TV, desk, minibar & safe.

We had a view out onto Oranienburger Strasse, and with the windows shut it wasn't noisy. The hotel looks really interesting from the outside, with its façade of glass cubes and red & white curtains.

Oh, and a word of warning if you stay here. Don't stand naked looking out the window of your room if you overlook the street….people can see you!

In May 2006 out room cost 80 pounds per night, including a buffet breakfast.

  • Hotel Am Potsdamer Platz - Berlin
    Hotel Am Potsdamer Platz
    by diocletianvs
This is a small hotel on Potsdamer Strasse, some 10 minutes walk from the Potsdamer platz. The area is not specially charming (there is a prostitute stand few blocks down the Potsdamer strasse) but it's centrally located and does not feel unsafe.

The hotel itself offers basic rooms with own bathrooms for reasonable price. We paid 70 Eur for a double room, plus we got a discount for reserving online. They charge extra for breakfast and although it is maybe a bit pricey the breakfast was excellent - they even had salmon and a caviar which was a bit strange for a hotel of this price range.

The biggest plus of this hotel is definitely its location and affordable prices. The staff was helpful, rooms were clean and breakfast was good. On the minus side is a bit dodgy surrounding area, "Dalmacija grill" restaurant on the ground floor (I won't go into details) and plastic ducks as decorations on breakfast tables. Oh yes, there were also some "decorative" colorful plastic fish hanging from the ceiling in the breakfast room and a small zoo of plastic animals from the nearby Turkish "Everything for 50 Cents Shop" decorating the windows. Old German ladies seemed to like that though.

The hotel has recently left the Best Western group.
I've stayed in this hotel a couple of times during the last years. Five minutes walk from the train station Bahnhof Zoo is perfect, as I'd never go by car to Berlin.
The rooms are standard, the staff was always friendly, no problems so far.
In summer, the hallway gets very hot.Booking through an agency can give you very good rates for this hotel.

The best part of this hotel is their roof garden, overlooking Ku'damm and the Ged?chtniskirche. Breakfast is buffet style, much more than anyone could possibly eat.
From hot breakfast ,cereals, salmon to champagne, just about anything . You can take your breakfast out on the roof and eat, while enjoying the city from above.

Builded in 1958 and renovated in 2003 - actualy a top Hotel in Berlin, specialized on meeting facilities (more than 5000sm)

The "Hugo Restaurant" at the top Floor with an excellent overview on Berlin, east and west
I never had a dinner in this restaurant, but was invited by the sales manager Jan Frederick to take some pictures.
Next to this subliem restaurant you will find at the basement the Vitality Club - pool, sauna, fitness center. This FC is open day and night - frequently used by intercontinental visitors like the american Business man who like to destress from a Jet Lag.
The pool is open from 6am till 11pm, pool and fitness center is included in the price - so for free.
Generaly spoken and depending on your travel agent you can ask for different installed/equiped rooms - Classical installed or a more modern configuration like network facilities, sanitary facilities like a double shower system.

You have the choice between Dormitories or private rooms (with or without private bathroom) - friends of me stayed there with a child - it's in the centre of Berlin-Mitte very close to the next subway .

It's international - you can meet a lot of people of the whole world!

The price depends of the kind of room you need!

  • I stayed a few nights in this nice Hostel, which is close to the Ostbahnhof and therefore quite close to the centre and the station to go to all airports.
Good prices, clean rooms and a beautiful courtyard. Breakfast is not included, but they have special offers for guests in the café next door which has a terrace in the same lovely yard.
I paid 30 Euro for a single room without bath, double or triple rooms are much cheaper.

Agon Frankfurter Allee Hotel Berlin: Very good budget hotel    Check Rates

We spent two nights at Agon Frankfurter Allee and then we went to another hotel in another area of Berlin. Our stay was really satisfactory: it is not a luxurious hotel, but everything was new, practical and comfortable. Both room and bathroom were very clean (our room had white duvets: if they were not clean, we would have noticed at first sight). Staff was kind and helpful. We had buffet breakfast included and it was not bad, although I guess that for English/American people it might be short (in Spain, we are not used to great breakfast: a lot of people only has coffee at morning). The area is not very central, but there is a U-bahn station just a few meters away from the hotel. Frankfurter Allee is a good area for giving a look at classical comunist architecture: it is not a beauty, but peculiar to see. It's a cheap hotel: we paid 58 euros/night/room, a bargain.

Fantastic location. 10 Euro to sleep under the stars on deck (the website says tent, but I guess they mean sleeping bag) (summertime only) to 36 Euro/person for a Class 1 private room with big window. They also have dorm rooms of many sizes if you don't mind sharing.

Breakfast can be had for 3 Euro. Coffee/tea, cheese, meats and bread.

Personally I wouldn't bother though - just a couple of minutes walk to Kreutzberg to some fantasic cafes where you can get a great breakfast for just a couple of Euro more.

To hear the water as you drift off to sleep, and the ducks quacking to welcome you in the morning. Heaven!

Quiet and central location in the historical centre of Berlin, right at the famous “Gendarmenmarkt” with the French and German Cathedral.
The Hilton Hotel disposes of 589 rooms, an executive floor, business rooms and suites. Non-smoking rooms and rooms suitable for allergic and handicapped people available.
Besides 16 conference rooms with the latest technics and a conference- and business centre, they offer the following service to their guests:: Conciergeservice, Health Club & LivingWell Express, barber, 24h room service, safe deposit boxes, 2 bars and 5 restaurants.

We liked most the view over the famous Gendarmenmarkt, were you can sit outside in restaurants and cafes in the evening. A subway station is nearby, so that you have good start for Berlin sightsseing.

It's not too expensive, but has all the things high quality hotels need. We enjoyed our stay.

This hotel was brought to my attention by robertgaz . So Robert, I hope you come and check out this place yourself one day :)

If you're looking to stay in some extraordinary place, stay at the Propeller Lodge. The rooms are individually designed. E.g. there's a mirror room or a room completely in orange. Not quite sure what a Feng Shui Master would have to say...

I didn't stay here myself though
