An absolutely luxurious hotel recently renovated. Leave a Comment |
The immediate vicinity of this hotel is a bit unusual: lots of old gray ("grey" to you) warehouses and such that seem more or less deserted most of the time. But aside from that it's a perfectly normal three-star hotel, very close to a transit station ("Gleisdreieck"), just a block away from the German Technical Museum and only a short walk from Potsdamer Platz. I once stayed here for two nights because I got a good deal on it through the internet, either hrs.de or hotel.de, which are the ones I always use. Leave a Comment |
We spent four nights here as our base on our cricket tour to Berlin and found the accommodation perfectly acceptable - we had three man rooms (three singles) with a bathroom shared with another room and a communal kitchen. The room was clean, breakfast delivered proved perfectly adequate - they gave us a packed breakfast for our 5am departure. The facilities were basic but very adequate for our needs, with good showers, basic furnishing. During the week it is also home to a lot of the Gastarbeiter who are working on Berlin's building sites.
Very cheap, with friendly and helpful staff. The cheapest rooms are EUR 28 per night and that is based on three sharing. Leave a Comment |
This is a great place right in the heart of Friedrichshain, one of the more happening parts of town. It's on a quite side street and the rooms are comfortable and clean.
The staff was friendly and spoke English. The lobby had a great atmosphere and though a bit smoky (there is no smoking in the rooms!), looked a great place to hang out. The bathrooms were interestingly/warmly decorated and very functional with great showers. A double was $45 and dorm space was $15. It's well located, just a short walk to the S-Bahn that will bring you to the center in ten minutes. This was a very modern, clean, comfortable place to stay. Located in the northeastern part of the city, it was a short walk to a streetcar that can get you to Berlin's TV Tower in about 15 minutes without needing to transfer. The hotel provided a card that allowed unlimited access to the public transit system. If you're travelling with a companion, be sure you know if the double beds will separate or not (depending on how well you know your companion, of course!). In the larger rooms, some of the beds are two singles which can be separated, but some are not. However, you may get a smaller room when you ask for 2 single beds. The larger rooms have a "living room", and a larger bar area that the smaller rooms do not. An example of the larger room is pictured on the hotel's website. There's a cable TV and fridge in each room, and a contraption to press your pants. You buy tokens for the washers and dryers at the front desk. Front desk staff was very helpful, and were able to speak English. Reviews I'd seen of this hotel before I stayed here gave it a rating of 4 out of 5. I'd agree.
They have a great serve-yourself breakfast in the morning, served on the lobby level and one floor below, which will meet any North American expectation. The variety includes eggs, sausage, juices, a variety of dry cereals, croissants and other breads, and top it off with coffee, a choice of teas, or even a glass of champagne! Hint: The lobby level restaurant gets the majority of guests, so it runs out of food more quickly. Use the lower level room when it's open. There is also a Fitness Center and a sauna on-site. There is a small convenience store at one end of the hotel, which you get to from outside. There, you can pick up munchies, beer and wine. There is also a bar in the lobby, and a free Internet connection...when it's working. There's a small pub/restaurant across the street from the convenience store, a Chinese take-out at the other end of the block, as well as a few other restaurants in the area within walking distance. We really liked this place. We stayed for four nights, and we took a package they had that included a bottle of Deutscher Sekt (which we later found in the grocery market for four Euros) and a three day travel card for the Bus and U/S bahn. Other than that it was 99 Euro a night. It was very comfortable, clean, lime green, and quiet. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we loved the location as well.
We got bathrobes and slippers, and the bathroom was very modern. The whole place was modern. Apparently there is a gym, but we didn't have time to relax there. My one complaint isn't really a complaint. Breakfast was not included, and since it was our first hotel, we didn't miss it. The rest of our trip had it included and the breakfasts were always so amazing! Leave a Comment |
