Cheap but Cheerfull

by robbieowen84

hi my girlfriend and me are visiting Berlin on the 19th of January. I was there a few years ago but cant remember much. We are both quite broke so was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap but quite central hotel. thanks

Try this pension:

Nice location with many bars, restaurants and clubs within walking distance. A subway / S-Bahn station is right around the corner. Same goes for a Tram stop.
And it's cheap.

There's Meininger hostel and AOL hostels (right in the center). I was in both and they are cheep and very good.

Berlin has some excellent hostels. And some of them have also 2-bed rooms.

A good tip to save money Robbie is to take public bus number 100. I picked it up outside Berlin Zoo & saw loads of the capitals major sites for a fraction of what the sightseeing bus charges. Take a look at this page for details :

Have a nice time, Darren.

Travel Tips for Berlin

"Rosinenbomber" in the air

by Karin1S

Located at the front of the technical museum you can find one of the famous "Rosinenbomber" the planes what flue between Frankfurt and Berlin after the wall was built by the government of GDR.

It is a relict of the cold war

German Apothekes | Deutsche Apotheken

by anacapa

I just read mccrorj's local custom tip for apotheke's in Berlin. I wanted to add that every pharmacy posts a list of which pharmacy is on call. You can go to your nearest pharmacy, check the list in the window and find out which one in the neighborhood is open. Pharmacies at major train stations in Berlin stay open longer than your average pharmacy, so if it's before 8pm, you might be in luck there.

Also, note, grocery stores do not sell aspirin/bandages/tampons and the like. Best bet is to go to a drug store, a Drogerei, not an Apotheke, for these things. There are lots of these around, my favorite being at the various large train stations...(Zoo, Friedrichstrasse, Hauptbahnhof)

AIBO!!

by Emke

This is a little unconvential tip, but you just have got to go to the sony store in the Sony Center at the Potsdamer Platz.

Why? Because of AIBO!!!! Aibo is a little robot dog and it is truly amazing what he can do. He can recognize you with the little camera in its head and he can play with a ball almost like a real dog.

Colourful bags

by nomadig about B Cover

B Cover has a small window facing Kurfürstendamm, but the bags on display are so colourful and geometric in shape that there is always at least one or two persons looking into the shop.

The bags are their own design, and they really set you apart from the crowds -- in a positive manner. Prepare to hear oohs and aahs from your friends understanding something about the style. The rest will most probably claim that the bag looks a little odd.

The selection is available in a range of colours, but they may have to manufacture the bag for you, so this option is not for the occasional city visitors. The only minus is the hefty price.

Friday is "Schlager" Party

by chicabonita about Hafenbar

If you don't want to queue come before 10 pm.

Friday night is the night of German beat music. If you like it you can have great fun singing and dancing the whole night long. a blue-white striped shirt, blue trouseres and a sailors head :-)))

I guess you don't really have to style up, at least I didn't ...
