Ost Berlin, very depressing place
by croisbeauty
All of this pictures I've took through the taxi glass window, in ariving and departing the city of Berlin. Both days were cold and gloomy which made this scenes even more depressing. Ectually, I haven't stroll around Eastern part of the city nither I went to see what was once the famous Berlin wall. The walls are, in my opinion, built by narrow minded people, those who have walls in their own brains, those who are full of limitations and evil. Nothing could me convinced to visit such a place, no thanks. I strongly recommend you to avoid this part of Berlin, there is nothing interesting here.
Ampelmännchen
by Helga67
Ampelmännchen was the little traffic light man of the former East German crosswalk signal. Following German unification in 1990, there were attempts to standardise all traffic signals to the West German forms, leading to a "Save the Ampelmännchen" campaign. It succeeded in preserving the traffic signal and today the Ampelmännchen is a beloved icon of the new Berlin.

East building of Shtuler serves today for the museum purposes. There was the Egyptian museum having one of the most significant in the world collection of culture of Ancient Egypt here and in former stables in the neighbourhood till March, 2005. Such well-known exhibits enter into it, as a portrait bust of tsarina Nefertiti.
nostalgie : east German food
by miromi
There is one ostalgie grocery store in Alexanderplatz near the u2 platform although the wall fell over a decade ago, you can still buy many old DDR brands, and a lot of supermarkets like Kaufland in the east stock these old favorites. My favorites are the candies: where else can you find such cute and whimsical package designs? "Ostalgie" is the nostalgie for the "Ost" or the east. Some of the brands have sold their names and are mere fronts for the same generic digitalkamera from South korea and so on, but the food seems to retain a bit more integrity.
To/from Schoenefeld Airport
by kevarms
Fast-growing Schoenefeld Airport is located to the southeast of Berlin and is a 30-40 minute U- or S-Bahn ride from the city centre. There is a shuttle bus from the airport terminal that takes passengers to the station.
