Simcard&FreeWifi question

by timewaster

How much does a simcard costs in berlin ( With the smallest amount of minutes)?

Also, do the food courts in the malls especially the one in Potsdamer Platz have free wifi?
Is it easy to find cafes/coffee shops with free wifi?

Re: Simcard&FreeWifi question

T-online and Vodafone D2 are the two big providers in Germany. Sometimes they have online specials, so you would pay as little as 10 Euro. But normally you pay 20 Euro with both providers.

I have never looked for free wifi in Berlin, so cannot tell you. Somebody else might know.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Terry's Top Hat Tours

by DrewV

Absolutely take a walking tour around Mitte, the historic centre of Berlin which was under East German dominion during the Cold War. I recommend Terry's Top Hat Tours, which stops by the Circus Hostel. Terry was a former attache to the British Embassy in East Berlin, so he knows the town. His tour was incredibly detailed, enjoyable, informative and enlightening. And I don't generally like tours. I liked it so much that I did it again when Alejandro and I returned to Berlin in July 2000.

Memorials - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

by yooperprof

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was one of the "non-conforming" pastors imprisoned for refusing to "toe the line" of German religious policy in the Nazi era. He was also one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century, a pioneer of "social-based" theology and an important influence upon Martin Luther King Jr., among others.

Bonhoeffer was implicated in the 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler, and in 1945 he was executed at Buchenwald. After the war, Bonhoeffer's body - and those of other conspirators - was re-interred in central Berlin's Dorotheenstädtischer cemetery.

Neue Wache:Sculpture by Kaethe Kollwitz

by christine.j

The Neue Wache as such is not "off the beaten path", as it's in the street "Unter den Linden", where thousands of tourists walk by .But not many walk inside. Back in 1929 it was a memorial for dead soldiers, the Nazis used it as a memorial for dead "heroes", during the times of the GDR it was memorial for victims of fascism.
Inside there is a sculpture of a mother holding her dead son.It doesn't matter who he is, why he was killed , no labels are neccessary. It's just a mother holding her dead son.
This is a place I never fail to stop by when I'm in Berlin and it always touches me.

Movable artwork - pose 1

by matcrazy1

I found this artwork on my picture put in front of New National Gallery (Neue Nationalgalerie) at Potsdamer Straße (Tiergarten). I have no idea who created it, do you?

Nothing very special but the four square elements of the work were moving on the wind. Look at the next tip and compare pictures.

Smooth cocktails on Karl-Marx Allee

by yooperprof about CSA Bar

This is one of the most beautiful martini bars I've ever been in. Located in a former sales office for the Czech State Airline (hence the name), the CSA Bar has a sleek minimalist decor, lighting that flatters, an attentive staff, and broad plate glass windows that look out at traffic whizzing by on what was intended to be East Germany's grandest boulevard. I have to confess this: I experienced a "frisson" of delight sipping my Cosmopolitan and shamelessly engaging in decadent homosexual flirtation while sitting comfortably ensconced on "Karl-Marx Allée". History does have its pleasurable ironies.
