Tegel airport to Urania, Berlin.
by Bavavia
Hello
I checked the journey planner another poster recommended and it seems there are no S or U bahns that go from Tegel ariport to Urania area of Berlin. The journey planner recommended this ( having to take two buses, one to alexander plaz and one to urania). Is there a train that would just go to Alexander plaz from airport and that i can easily walk to urania? I will have maybe 1-2 bags
Thanks very much

you should take the TXL bus from Tegel airport to Alexanderplatz and change at TURMSTRASSE to "bus 187" direction "Halbauer Weg" and leave the bus at "An der Urania"

Tegel is a comparatively small airport (and won't exist much longer). There's no train whatsoever leaving from Tegel, just buses and taxi cabs.

Bus TXL to Beusselstr. and change there to bus 109 is one option. The BVG timetable suggest by default the fastest options. And in this case this is bus + bus. Tegel Airport is anyway only served by buses as it was also meant to be a temporary airport and it will be closed in the next few years.

The JetExpress bus TXL goes to Alexanderplatz. You'll have to exit this bus before Alexanderplatz. And you won't want to walk from there to Urania. That would be a 6 km walk.
You only have the options to change once on the route to Urania. Or walk from the Zoologischer Garten station the 1 km to Urania. I would opt for the change of buses in this case with luggage.

thank you all so much! your responses certainly clear things up. I didnt realize Tegel was so small, since its an international airport, i thought it would be like Munich airport. I knew it was smaller ( because i can only get a direct flight out of JFK ).. but i didnt realize it was that small! lol
anyway, thanks again very much!!! i will take the buses!! :)

there shurely will be more surprise for you in Berlin, e.g. the Central Train Station (=Hauptbahnhof) surrounded by nothing, only empty space, sand and grass...
or the newly planned rebuilt City Palace (=Stadtschloss)looking exactly like the palace of Baroque architecture in the center of Berlin. What do you find: a lawn! (we don't have the money to rebuild the building, but our Federal Parliament decided we must do it, so right now we don't do nothing)

hello
just to clarify.. the quickest easiest option is:
Direction- take TXL jet bus that says" Alexanderplatz" [1]
get off at this stop : Beusselstr. (Berlin) arr: 19:44
then at this stop take Bus 106?
Can I walk from Beusselstr to Urania??
thanks ( just doing my final planning now and jotting down final instructions)
thanks

Sorry, no, Beusselstrasse is situated roughly halfway between airport and Urania.
You would need to change buses at Beusselstrasse.
If this is too much hassle, take the TXL bus to Zoologischer Garten and walk to Urania (as mentioned by abalada).
Or take a taxi cab.

hello
The bus and walking sounds like a good option for me, will have one suitcase and one carry bag.. so no heavy or bulky luggage. If weather is bad, i can always take a taxi as well like you menitoned. thank you so much for your help!!
Travel Tips for Berlin
Potsdamer Platz
by elgin99
I like it!!
This is an important square and traffic intersection in the center of Berlin, Germany, lying about 1 km south of the Brandenburg Gate. Since the fall of the Wall it has risen again as a glittering new heart for the city and the most visible symbol of the new Berlin.
It is a place with a great and long history, too long to write about herein. But if you want have a look, visit the website about.
After 1990, the square became the focus of attention again, as an attractive location which had suddenly become available in the center of a major European city. It was widely seen as one of the hottest, most exciting building sites in Europe. The city government chose to divide the area into four parts, each to be sold to a commercial investor, which then planned new construction.
At almost any time of the day, the place is alive with people. It has become a must-see for visitors, a top shopping area for tourists and probably the number-one spot to go for English speaking film fans, with more than 40 screens in three cinemas, including an English speaking cinema, a film academy and a film museum.

Museum Island -- Altes (Old) Museum
by yooperprof
The Altes Museum has one of the most striking facades of any museum in the world. I didn't get a chance to go inside to see the collection of Greek and Roman arts, but I enjoyed the perspective of the structure's grand exterior.
It was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the 1830s - the great architect also responsible for the Neue Wache and the Friedrichswerder Kirche, among other structures in Berlin. Schinkel was partly responsible for giving this section of Berlin its stately air of neo-classical authority.
The portico of the Altes Museum is 87 meters high, supported by 18 massive Ionic columns. The bowl in front of the museum was originally intended for the building's lobby, but apparently it was too heavy to carry inside, so they left it outdoors as the centerpiece of the Lustgarten, or Pleasure Garden. (The bowl weighs over 70 tons.)
Information for visitors
by matcrazy1
There were information tables put on a street in front of some tourist attractions in Berlin.
This one on my picture was put next to Branderburg Gate and contained old photographs and historical information on the famous Gate. Texts were written in four languages: English, French, German and Russian. These were languages of four sectors of Berlin since World War II ended.
Walking around various districts of Berlin I found less known but interesting, old buildings with no information for visitors (even in German) put outside.
Christmas Markets in Berlin
by Karin1S
Enjoy the Christmas and meet the people of Berlin - one of the best places are one of the christmas markets.
Enjoy a cup of "Gluehwein" (hot sweet and spice wine) and watch the living around you
You can find them at Breitscheidplatz or "Unter den Linden" or at "Gendarmenmarkt"
(Breitscheidtplatz is the best in my opinion)
One of the best!
by nyxxx about Sage Club
One of the best clubs I know in Germany, really beautiful inside. Two floors for dancing... also place to just sit and feel all relaxed. Just perfect for spending all night!
Sometimes live - and rather rock music - concerts on Thursdays, mainly electro on Fridays and Saturdays, often featuring quite awesome DJs! But beware, on Fridays there are also hiphop or R'n'B parties :-*
Better look for "housebug" (Fridays) and especially the "one louder" series (Saturdays). none for women... sometimes a little difficult to get in when in large groups, esp. if only consisting of men. But just seperate a little, mix up with girls waiting in line and you won't have any problems at all.
