Nightclubs in Berlin

by nehphets

Can anybody tell me of any good nightclubs in Berlin near Alexanderplatz preferably indie music, although any music would be fine, Also if there are any clubs open on a Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks

Re: Nightclubs in Berlin

Can't say if they play indie when you're there, but closest would probably be

Bang Bang Club, Neue Promenade 10, near Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station, one stop from Alex.

A bit off from Alex:

Dunker, Dunckerstr. 64 (S-Prenzlauer Allee, left into Schönhauser Allee, 1st or 2nd left into Wichertst., 1st left into Dunckerst.)
http://www.dunckerclub.de/

Or Lido, which is located in Cuvryst. 7. (U-Schlesisches Tor, right into Schlesische St., 2nd or 3rd into Cuvryst.)

There are some clubs not that far away (around 1 - 2 km) from Alexanderplatz (mainly northwest from Alexanderplatz) playing Indie music (not exclusively, so have a look at their program). Some clubs are open mon/tue, mostly for concerts. only few open for indie parties.

- Roter Salon http://www.volksbuehne-berlin.de/deutsch/spielplan/?reihe=30
- Bang Bang Club http://www.bangbangclub.net/
- Kaffee Burger http://www.kaffeeburger.de/?page=programm
- White Trash Fast Food http://www.whitetrashfastfood.com/events/
- Bassy http://www.bassy-club.de/programm-2.html

Then there are
- weekend (playing house and techno) directly at alexanderplatz
- VCF (http://www.vcf-berlin.de/home.htm), drumnbass, reggae, electro, sometimes also indie
- golden gate (minimal techno, thursday to sunday)
- cookies (house and electro, tuesday and thursday)
- sophienclub (mainstream, pop and stuff)
- delicious doughnuts, playing house n similar stuff (open everyday, mixture of club n bar)

Weather Forecast and Historical Temperatures

http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/GMXX0007_f.html

Have found the above site to be as reliable as you can expect a forecast to be and also providing useful historical data.

The best tourism period seems to be considered to be May to September. I was there in late midish May to early June and experienced sunny days with little rain. I know it can get really hot in mid summer and really cold, wet, cloudy and windy between November and February.

Rathaus

by bugulma

The Rathaus was built in 1861-1869 and since those times the city government is situated here (after WWII there are 2 city government for Eastern and Western part of the city). The Rathaus is situated near of Alexanderplatz, on the crossing of Rathaus Strasse and Spandauer Strasee.

Graffiti - art of the street ?

by matcrazy1

There were quite many walls covered by graffiti esp. political and humorous but sometimes rude as well especially in Kreuzberg district.

Sometimes I coudn't understand real meaning of the words or drawings put on the wall even when the author used English words. What did the "riot fight" with drawings of the sun mean?

We must never forget the horrors of The Second World War and its consequences. While in Berlin, you can visit the old Gestapo headquarters and go to this wall to contemplate the rise of The Third Reich and its athrocious results.

Books on art

by matcrazy1 about Bücherbogen in der Nationalgalerie

Inside the New National Gallery (Neue Nationalgalerie) I found amazing self-service bookstore with great choice of books on art, especially on architecture, painting of 20th century and history of art, both German and world art. There were many books in English of which a few on history of architecture looked very interested for me.

HOURS:
Tue, Wed, Fri: 10.00 am - 6.00 pm,
Thu: 10.00 am - 9.00 pm,
Sat, Sun: 11.00 am - 6.00 pm,
Monday: closed. I bought this great book on my picture: Das MoMA in Berlin. It was a catalogue of the exposition I visited and it contained pictures of over 200 masterpieces from Museum of Modern Art in New York which were on exposition. Warning: the book was available in German only. I paid 39.00 € for my book. There was the same book with soft cover a few euros cheaper. Hmm... I would pay max. 20 - 25 € for such book in Poland, I think.
