Very big and for once I liked the luxury. I liked the atmosphere, but I didn't liked the convention-guests of a make-up cy. Very many snobs.
Unique Quality: More restaurants in the hotel and a very big atrium. A Metro/S-Bahn station nearby.
The hotel Estrel Hotel is enormous and looks like a casino. Its absolutely miles from the centre of Berlin. Don't bother staying here if your a tourist- if you have to because of a conference.(Which would then be bad luck!) Good luck if you find the ice machine which is supposed to be on a floor. Rooms are very ordinary but have the modern facilities.
We left and found a great hotel called Hotel Kastanienhof in Mitte. This area is fab because of the historical signifance to Germany.
What to Do: Catch open bus around Berlin- see everything.
Checkpoint Charlie a must. Drinks at Grand Westin Hotel - Mitte...
Dinner at Berlin Hotel. Crosses at the Wall. Berlin Catheral, Brandebburger Tor....etc.etc.
Overall Berlin is an expensive city but interesting for its historical value. A little too big for me. Give me Prague, Paris, Rome etc...
I was in business software conference at this hotel. Stayed at section 4. It all was very comfortable (air conditioning etc), but some minuses, too.
First - why they ask a fee for Wireless Internet? I used to see free wireless hotspots everywhere.
Second - the view. Behind the hotel it was Cebe factory and some industrial landscapes. Nothing spectacular. Hotel is far from city and nothing special around. Even Geocaches are many kilometers away :S
But great things are - it´s very suitable for conference tourism, because hotel is huge and all participants can be accommodated at the same place. Convention center is thru the gallery, You have not go outside. This time was +32 degrees Celsius and humid air, it was difficult outside. But air conditioned interier was cool.
Hotel rooms are quite stylish and modern. TV was not so modern, LCD or plasma will suit better to this design.
Food - OK. Big lobby was full of breakfast tables. And for evenings there are many restorans and bars in the lobby. Excellent for lazy visitors, because You must take a cab to trhe city center.
Unique Quality: Huge place - good for conference tourism.
Directions: South
I stayed at the Estrel for seven days in June 2005 for a conference. The hotel offered four or five different restaurants, a convenience store, a business center, a nightclub, and a Las Vegas style impersonator show. The common areas of the hotel were very nice...the room that I stayed in though, was very basic. Bed, tv, minibar, and a table. The room was on par with your standard Marriott Courtyard here in the US. Notable omissions from the room included a clock, iron, and coffee maker.
The hotel is a bit away from all of the action Berlin has to offer, however, it is less than a block away to the S-Bahn.
Unique Quality: Very friendly staff, close to trasportation, very clean.
Directions: Treptow?, Southeast portion of the city.
