Cheap and bright

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 21, 2012

We found the hostel very easilly, booked in with friendly staff who gave us a city map and got to our room; a small room with sink, lockers and one bunk bed. We stayed for 3 nights, the first two were peaceful but the second we have a noisy group of boys in the room next door that woke us at about 2; we had to be up at 3 to catch out flight.
It was cheap, well located, had wifi in the reception and fixed PCs if you needed one.
It had very large, clean bathrooms and showers so we didn't need to wait. Also had a large outdoor area and bar which would have been good in the summer.

Unique Quality: A huge breakfast, which was included in our package.

Directions: Near Landsberger Allee Station, you can see the station from the triple glazed windows!

Very cheap and in good condition

Generator hostel in Berlin is a very cheap and good place to stay at. I paid only 10 euro. You could make a reservation in advance using your credit card, but they do not charge it: you pay upon arrival. It is located in an entirely new building with maybe more than 400 rooms (it has 7 floors by more than 50 rooms each). New tourists arrive every minute. There is a bar and restaurant inside (I didnt go there), free wi-fi. The reception staff is nice and friendly. There are also electronic cards for opening the doors.
Besides the good qualities, I found some unpleasant things. Most of the people are quite young and go to Berlin for having fun. Some of them organize parties in the rooms. There was a party in the room next to mine until 3 o'clock although the noise after 22 h is forbidden. There are many groups despite the fact that on the web site is written that they do not accept groups of tourists.

Hostel perfect for having a good time

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)

I definitley recommend this hostel for any young people looking to travel and have a good time. The staff were very helpful and lenient, the drinks were cheap, the rooms were good quality and it was great value for money.
I wouldn't recommend this hostel for families or older people. It is very noisy and the bar is open late and there is much drunkedness.

Unique Quality: The bar war was fantastic and the happy hour made drinks very cheap.

Directions: You can see the hostel when you get off the train at Landsberger Allee - about 50 minutes from Berlin Schönefeld.

Budget Berlin Accommodation

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 17, 2007

At the start of my second trip to Berlin, before I met up with my girlfriend, who was working in the city, I stayed for two nights in the Generator Hostel. This is a huge hostel on Storkower Strasse in the east of the city. It’s conveniently located next to Lansberger Allee S-Bahn station which provides easy access to the city centre.

Generator has seven floors and it the single room I stayed in felt like it might once have been a prison cell! It’s very much a student type place though I had no problems at all. My room was large, clean and fairly sound-proof. Showers were shared with other rooms on my floor and a buffet breakfast was included. All this came to 35 Euro a night (as of Aug 2003), though a dorm room would have been much cheaper.

All-you-can-eat breakfast

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 29, 2006

Good price (and 10% off with isic card). Smelly and not very clean room. You get (clean:) towels and linen. Bathrooms are clean. All-you-can-eat breakfast is great (that was our favourite part of the day :) Noise depends on which side of hostel is your room.
Conclusion: Great hostel with great breakfast and at least one smelly room.

Generating a decent Atmosphere to stay.

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

This hostel is massive. We stayed here as a part of a tour but in addition to us there were litterally hunddreds of others in the building.

The breakfast was included in the stay. I'm unsure whether that's standard but if it is included then at least there's breakfast to survive on.

The tram is just accross the road from the hostel. This is the best option to travel into the sights of the city..

Unique Quality: The rooms don't have airconditioning. Not unexpected when you're in a cooler country. The beds are fine and the hallways are tidy. What more can you ask for.

The rooms we had all had their own shower facilitiies. Some sort of demountable like facility. Squishy but ok.

The Hostel also has a few internet terminals and a bar downstairs for the entertainment.

Good For Students

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 18, 2005

The hostel was more than adequate. Though I never experienced the continental breakfast due to 'late night drinking'. Lol

Rooms were comfortable and the geenral atmosphere is good. Though it was dead in the latter part of the week and we found ourselves the only ones drinking in the bar.

Location wise it is just as well the station is next door as the surrounding area isdead and a bit derelict. Adds character I think. The wall is nearby and has many interesting murals on it.

From the station there you can go to Frankfurter Allee and onto Alexanderplatz. From there the whole city is your oyster.

Unique Quality: The design is ultra modern/ industrial

Fanntastic range of guidebooks and booklets. Ask the multilingual staff at reception for advice on tourist sights.

Directions: Next To Landsberger Allee Banhoff

A Good Hotel At A Great Price

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 3, 2004

I stayed here for 5 nights and found it to be an excellent place to stay.

While it is a little outside the centre of Berlin, it is served by excellent trams and S-Bahn trains, both of which stop less than a couple of minutes walk away. Given the closeness of these the noise level in the room was not noticeable.

The room was double glazed, which helped in cutting down the noise. The beds were clean and comfortable. The ensuite facilities are good, well worth paying a little extra for, with no lack of hot water.

The lift was a little bit small if you have a large bag or several people trying to get in at once.

The staff are friendly and helpful, with good local knowledge.

There is a local Lidl supermarket, which opens at 8am, just around the corner from the hotel, if you want to stock up on food and drink for a days sightseeing.

Unique Quality: The bar is an excellent place to relax, although there is not alot else to do in this part of Berlin.

Directions: Get off at Lansberger Allee S-Bahn stop and tram stop. Any of the other stops just means a very long walk!

Neat hostel on the East Side

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 4, 2003

We stayed at the Generator Hostel Berlin for one evening in November 2003. The hostel is a huge buidling right next to the Landsberger Allee S-Bahn station on the Ring line. The interior of the building has a very futuristic/Star Trekkie feel to it. Lots of blue lighting in each section of the hostel.

The front desk staff is very helpful and fluent in English. If they didn't have an answer to a question on hand, they went out of there way to get an answer.

There is internet available for a nominal fee of like 1 Euro for 15 minutes and there are plenty of terminals available.

There is a very cool, blue lit, bar at the hostel with cheap beers and drinks. Lots of tvs tuned either to MTV or soccer in the bar area. There were people of all ages in the bar.

The rooms were very small (we had a twin room), but there were also tons of them. The showers in the rooms with private facilites were also quite small...albeit very clean.

Basic breakfast is available at no charge, while a more substantial meal can be had for a small charge.

There is an ATM nearby and a doner kebab restaurant right around the corner.

The Generator is about 15 mintutes from Alexanderplatz by subway. This place is a good deal, and fun, if you don't mind staying a bit of a distance from all of the action.

Directions: Across from the Landsberger Allee S-Bahn station.

This is a MOSTER Hostel with 800 rooms.

The Generator was very conveniently located and easy for me to find off the S-Bahn train station.

It was clean and a friendly, english speaking staff that was real helpful giving tips on how to get around the city.

Unique Quality: It was my first time staying in a hostel and I was impressed with the hostel.

It was just what I needed as I had only 3-4 hours of sleep before catching my plane at the Berlin airport.

Fun budget hostel!

The Generator Berlin was the best hostel I stayed at all summer!! And... the best part.... the price! It cost only 9 euros per night to stay in an eight bed dorm room!! Talk about cheap! Plus, the place is just like a hotel. There's a posh bar, with a couple pool tables and awesome happy hour prices! Also, they have really cheap food. You can get a plate of fries for only a euro. I definitely recommend anyone who goes to Berlin to check this place out! It's right by an S Bahn stop, which is really conveniant, especially if you have a Eurail pass coming off the train, trying to find your hostel, because in Berlin, if you have the date filled in on your pass, you can ride the S Bahn for free!

Unique Quality: dorm and drink specials
