public transport
by etarlo
Five friends travelling together for 4 days in Berlin, also to and from schonefeld airport, what is the most suitable ticket please.
Re: public transport

I think your airport is in zone C, so might be worth buying an individual ticket to get into the centre, and then a regular zone A/B card for the other days. You can also get a tourist card valid for 48 hours which gives you some discounts and a map.
There are some nice things to see in zone C though, but maybe not in four days. There is Sachsenhausen concentration camp in the town of Oranienburg which is in zone C. It's quite a shock to walk through a normal looking residential suburb and suddenly find yourself at a former concentration camp!

Get yourselves a ticket for group travel ('Kleingruppenkarte'), if you're really travelling together all the time. 5 people can travel on one ticket all day long and it is EUR 16.10 for all three zones. That is quite cheap, compared to a single ticket which is 2.10 for two zones.
Travel Tips for Berlin
Deutsches Historisches Museum
by fipsi
The German Museum of History at the moment offers temporal exhibitions, by 2005 there will be also a permanent one.
The modern building is very interesting from an architectual point of view, and besides that the temporal exhibitions are - in my opinion - about very interesting topics. In 2003, for example I saw an exhibition about the problem of lies in media.

Sunday Opening
by mccrorj
If you come from a 24/7 culture remember that much of berlins stores still closes on a sunday. This generally includes the main stores such as the Galeria Kauf Hof and Kah Da We. Don't worry the tourist shops stay open to take your money. The Pharmancy (apotheke) is however closed and they operate an on call service but you have to find out which one is actually on call.

Less about shopping but Irish Pub
by Maria250 about Irish Pub in Europa Center
Europa Center is a big mall that offers on different floors all sorts of stores, gifts,- books,-music,-electronic,- clothing shops. The nicest thing the mall offers, are the many coffee and ice places, restaurants, and two Irish Pubs with programs for live music every night. My "shopping" tip is rather about that Irish Pub with live music. The pub is located on Europa Center's ground floor. One also gets soda and doesn't need to stick with beer. Berlin Bar FELIX - BAR IM ADLON PALAIS
by Dimi1
A real fancy cosmopolitan bar at the famous Adlon-Palais. A bar which looks bit more like the glory bars in Paris or London. Every year at the wellknown Berlin Film Festivals you can meet a lot of famous actors, artists, politicians as well as day- and nightdreamers here, enjoying a drink with Robin Williams, Mario Adorf or Pierce Brosnan ... The proficient barkeepers here know the art of mixing sours, exotical daiquiris and refreshing champagner cocktails as well as a veriety of unique cocktails which are only here available. Ask for the best girl Anja Verwendel and her famous Whiskey Sour ... Enjoy ! A bit more stylish but mainly be yourself !
