    Excellent hotel near Potsdamer Platz

    by

I stayed in the Grand Hyatt for a professional meeting in September 2008, and greatly enjoyed it.

The location is excellent, right on Marlene Dietrich Platz with its theaters, food and entertainment. Some of Berlin's major attractions are nearby: Potsdamer Platz is a 5 minute walk to the east, with S-Bahn and U-Bahn available there. The Brandenburger Tor and the Reichstag a further 5 minute walk in the same direction. The Sony Center entertainment center is 2 minutes away from the hotel. A 5 minute walk west from the hotel you reach the Kulturforum (Cultural Forum) with its museums and philharmonic hall.

The hotel is quite large, but is architecturally planned to give a more intimate, homely feeling, by dividing large spaces into smaller ones. You can see that in the photo of the reception area of the lobby, and in another photo of the view from one of the hotel floors to the inner courtyard.

My room was very large and luxurious, designed in good taste in a modern style. It took me a while to figure out where all the light switches were: I found them embedded in the room decor. The bathroom was large and well designed.

Breakfast was very good, and the staff was courteous and helpful.

Unique Quality: - Excellent standard of rooms and services
    - Good location for Potsdamer Platz area and Kulturforum
    - More intimate atmosphere in a large modern hotel, due to its architectural design and decor.

Directions: On Marlene Dietrich Platz, near Potsdamer Platz (S-Bahn & U-Bahn stations).

Good location for over 200 €

    by

Excuse, I didn't sleep there. I was in this newly built hotel for a moment and I can only say that it looked very modern and offers nice looking restaurants. But I am not sure whether it's worth of over 200 € per double room.

Unique Quality: A breathtaking view over the rooftops of Berlin from indoor swimming pool (Club Olympus Spa & Fitness) on the top.

Good location within walking distance of the Berlin Tiergarten, the Mitte district, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. The hotel is adjacent to Germany's largest casino, the Arkaden shopping mall and numerous cinemas and restaurants.

More about Grand Hyatt Berlin

Liked the Grand Hyatt Berlin very much

by TripAdvisor Member Christinaki

We were a group of eight friends and spent five nights at the Grand Hyatt in Berlin, which we liked very much in everyway. The location of the hotel is very convenient to many Berlin ventures. The hotel itself is new, modern, decorated in a minimalist way and everything functions very well. Service ALL OVER THE HOTEL is just excellent. It seems as if they have chosen the prettiest, most polite, smiling and "well-groomed" young professsionals in the country to work in the hotel. Our rooms were near the elevators, which is convenient, they were quite big in size (especially the bathroom area) although storage space could have been a little bigger.Other than that they were very well equipped and the staff of the hotel fulfilled every demand we expressed right away. The breakfast buffet every morning was one of the best I have encountered in the top hotels I have stayed in the world. All in all we had a really enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend the Grand Hyatt.

My favorite hotel in the world

by TripAdvisor Member martinnyc1

I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt Berlin several times now and it is my favorite hotel in the world. The facilities and staff are excellent. The rooms are modernist but elegant. The rooftop spa is fantastic, with a pool, whirlpool, dry and wet saunas and spa services. There are a few restaurants and bars in the hotel itself and right outside the door is Potsdammer Platz with lots of shops, restaurants, movie theaters, museums and bus and train transportation. It is a quick walk to the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag. The staff is highly professional and will help you with any questions you might have during your stay. Everything about the hotel is first rate!

Didn't find much 'Grand' about this Hyatt

by TripAdvisor Member beechmi

I just returned from Berlin, where I stayed at both the Grand Hyatt and Intercontinental Berlin and I was a bit disappointed with the Grand Hyatt.

As with most Grand Hyatts the hotel is well located, and the lobby is impressive. The staff is courteous and professional, but as I've found with other Hyatt's throughout the world I also found them too formal and stiff.

I stayed in one of the 'Club' rooms on the 7th floor and the room was nicely furnished and very contemporary. But it was also quite small, and had little closet space.

In addition, although I requested a 'non-smoking' room, and the room I was assigned was supposed to be a 'non-smoking', it had a strong stench of smoke and booze that would not go away, and since the hotel was overbooked, there were no other rooms I could move to.

The gym on the top floor of the hotel is nice, but not the 'greatest' gym in Berlin (I would say Holmes Place as well as others are much, much better).

Finally, the hotel was very expensive, and definitely not worth it. When I go back to Berlin I will stay at either the Intercontinental or Starwood properties, much nicer and worth their price.

Overall a good experience

by TripAdvisor Member Mi79

This hotel is fine for a business stay in Berlin, as the staff is very kind and professional, the lobby is quite impressive, the location is great (on Potsdamer Platz, home to theatres, clubs and malls) and there are all services you might need.
On the other hand, it has nothing really distinctive, it is not at all charming. Even the well known "Vox Bar" is nothing special; prices are low, but nothing really exciting or new is going on.
The rooms are warmly furnished and everything is quite new. The "shower room" is great, but I didn't really like the position of the only one closet in the room (it is inside the bathroom!).
Breakfast is a plus for this hotel, as it is really complete and freshly prepared. This should be a standard for a 5* hotel, but I did not find this level of service everywhere.

I recently stayed at this hotel for two seperate nights - one on a standard floor and one on the club floor. Both stays were excellent. The club floor provides a continental breakfast and continuous snacks and drinks throughout the day. The hotel staff is very courteous and helpful. The lobby and rooms are very nicely furnished and decorated. The bathroom itself was almost as big as some hotel rooms that I have stayed in in Europe. The hotel itself is right on the Potsdamer Platz. There are some restaurants, shopping, and nightlife activities in the area but they do not seem overly popular. However, the main shopping, restaurant, and siteseeing area (Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Unter Der Linden)is a 10-20 minute walk from the hotel. There is complimentary internet access in the downstairs business center as well as the club floor lounge. In-room access is available for a fee. The only downside is the floor layout. It can be a long hike to your room if you are not near the elevator bank. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are not overly price sensitive.

Brilliant hotel that made our city break a holiday

by TripAdvisor Member Lucyluu

Stayed here for 3 nights in March. Great location between Zoo (which isn't so nice) and Mitte (which was great) and on good bus route (no.200). Very friendly service. Nice big, modern rooms, had view over Philharmonie, with great bathroom. Spa was fantastic - beautiful pool, great sauna/plunge pool section and relaxing treatments available. All restaurants and the bar were great, if you want to stay in for food although its also nearby to other great eateries (try Lutter & Wegner over the road, which invented the term Sekt). Overall it really made this city break a proper holiday, although it is certainly not cheap but we felt worth splashing out on.
