great showers! super comfy lounge seats. mellow atmosphere. hostels always claim a friendly staff... everyone here actually was! really helpful. great suggestions.
however, it's called the clubhouse because there's a club downstairs - not related to the hostel. but they warn you about it upon check in and offer ear plugs. i stayed for 5 nights and it was only loud on one - a friday night, which didn't matter because i was out too.
Unique Quality: pool table! good music. lounge doubles as bar open 'til late. great capuccino packets :)

a Club underneath a hostel?
this was the best hostel out of the 5 countries we visited. the staff was awesome, the location was very convienient, and the atmosphere was just too cool.
Unique Quality: if you plan on not partying here, dont even bother coming by. we planned our trip to conincide with a weekend, and we took full advantage of it. we didnt go too far as everything we needed was close. except a laundromat. we had to hike a ways since the area doesnt have one. they have an open bar, continental breakfast, pool table, and lockers for your pack. the rooms has a very "ikea" feel to it, which is better than the bunk beds that we have seen. there is internet there, but i suggest find elsewhere to do it, as it's 1 euro for 15 mins.
it's also one of the starting points for the walking tours. we didnt do that, as they started too early for us. it's also very close to the train station. a night, if it tickles your fancy, there are "ladies of the night" with amazing bodies! we passed on it, but we were offered "some" for 70 euros. also if you wander around enuf, you may even find a "beach".

Clubhouse Hostel.
$12 dorm, $20/night/bed single
Unique Quality: 'the most central hostel in town' right in the heart of the Mitte. One of the best things about this hostel is its location. the time out guide said that this place had a grungy smell, which simply wasn't true; it was quite clean, bright and cheerful when I stayed, and conveniently located above the Kalkscheune club. i liked the cobblestone courtyard and the random opportunities to sneak into a darkwave room inbetween lots of sweaty clubbing Germans in the middle of the night. there's also a dirt path to Tacheles (see nightlife) across the street and easy late night runs to the Brasilian hot dog stand.
