Which neighbourhood to stay in Berlin

by heriany

Hi,

I will be staying 3days 2 nights in Berlin and wondering which neighbourhood should I stay. Preferred near train station as it will be easier for me to access when leaving Berlin for another state.

Thank you.

If you're after the main Hauptbahnof, your choice should be Charlottenburg. Near the sights, also S-bahn & U-bahn. Cklean, green neighbourhood.

BTW many good locations are connected via these modes of transport + busses, making getting around the city very easy & efficient!

For a bit of culture & trendy surroundings, Prenzlaeurberg (former East Germany - with lots of nice cafes & restaurants) is a good choice. Many stations serve this neighbourhood.

Ku'damm is also worth considering shopping area).

I stayed by Gendarmenmarkt, just off of Friedrictstrasse (forgive the misspellings). It was very central, a short walk to the Museum Island, lots of great restos and shops close by, a Bahn stop right outside the hotel and maybe a 10 minute walk to the Bahnhoff, Checkpoint Charlie a 10 minute walk the other direction. I would avoid the areas around Alexanderplatz as it seemed to kind of unkept, although you can get better prices at hotels in that area. Also, I found the public transportation access unwieldy. Karl

If you used the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof you are in the quarter Tiergarten / Moabit not far from the center east and west.

Travel Tips for Berlin

International Tourism Fair

by nepalgoods

From the official ITB-Page:
"ITB Berlin: Where Global Business Happens.

The whole world meets at ITB Berlin: People, working in the travel industry and people, who want to catch up on the most beautiful travel destinations. The combination of trade exhibition, public exhibition and the biggest professional convention worldwide attracts tens of thousands of visitors, exhibitors and media representatives every year.

Look forward to the World's Leading Travel Trade Show – 10-14 March 2010 on the fairgrounds of Messe Berlin."

As China Tours is a touroperator, every year we have a a booth on ITB. Sometimes I help there informing people of our tours to China. But mainly I am having meetings with business partners. ITB is a very exhausting event, so I do not have enough energy to see more than the fair grounds during ITB.

One of the many famous Berlin Bears found throughout the city. Local artists have been commisioned to paint these bears in their own individual style. These Bears are on general sale to the public for around £1000 each.

Language?

by Mandy23

English is the most common second language, and is widely understood and spoken. When speaking to strangers, one should use the formal forms of address (Sie rather than du).
One of my American friend's keeps on asking me how well he would get around with English. Personally, I think that this wont be a problem. English is a mandatory subject at school since forever and I'm quite sure people will be able to understand you, unless you speak at the speed of light *g*

(3) - Triumphbogen (Triumphal Arch)

If you come from Puschkinallee you enter the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park through a trimphal arch, made of grey granite. An inscription honours the soldiers who “died for freedom and independence of the socialist homeland”.

A second entrance portal is on the other side, on the street Am Treptower Park.

Location:
Between the streets Puschkinallee and Am Treptower Park, 12435 Berlin-Treptow

Directions:
S-Bahn S41, S42, S8, S85, S9, station Treptower Park
Buses 166, 265, 365, stations Sowjetisches Ehrenmal and Herkomer Straße, also N 65 Klingerstraße and Rethelstraße

Extravagant clothes

by matcrazy1 about Faster Pussycat Shop & Pop

Haha, it was COOL shop to look at and nice to drop by. More likely to be hip and trendy, but a bit over-the-edge clothings and furniture. Some of them were on sale.

HOURS:
Mon - Fri: 11.00 am - 8.00 pm,
Sat 11.00 am - 4.00 pm,
Sunday: closed. Less or more extravagant clothes both for girls and boys. Reasonable prices.
