New Year's Eve Clubs

by tyen

Hi I would like to know whether there is a website or any of you have some information regaerding this new year's eve and parties organised in night clubs.

Main Music preference is House / Techno / Electro music.

Also what is the best option to buy tickets? I will be in Berlin just one week before new year's eve!!

Re: New Year's Eve Clubs

by stativi

there are some clubs selling tickets beforehand (usually about one week to several days before NYE) at the club's entrance (for example berghain and ritter butzke and some other, bigger clubs), some clubs have special opening hours for that. these clubs have additionally a box office NYE. most of the other clubs only have box office.
here are some events listed, some other clubs announce their program two or three weeks before: http://www.residentadvisor.net/events.aspx?ai=34&v=day&mn=12&yr=2010&dy=31
however, prepare to stand in a line for a long time - even if you have tickets. and prepare for some crowded dancefloors.

difficult to say which one's the best club. depends on what you like. Berghain has a great artsy-industrial flair and it is very sexual (with also lots of gays), while the smaller watergate attracts a young hipster crowd and has a great location near the water and a nice light-installation. weekend, also a bit smaller, is a little bit posher and is located 50 m above the ground. the door policy is medium-strict at all three places (though there is no dresscode - it just matters how, let's say, cool you are ;)). Ritter Butzke is for the more alternative techno lovers and additionally there are lots of other clubs which are good too (MIKZ, suicide circus, Arena club, golden gate........)

Travel Tips for Berlin

walking tour with food:-)

by catwoman4

hey, i was invited to an eat-the-world-tour in berlin-kreuzberg. it was great! you really get in touch with the real berlin + you can taste some typical food of berlin. for me, it was the best guided tour i ever did because it's very different from the other ones, it's berlin off the beaten path. (website:eat-the-world.com) i like food, so for me, i will miss the food of Berlin: the currywurst, apple pie, different and cheap food from all over the world! please don't go to a burger shop, you can eat everywhere burgers. try the different foods of berlin. and don't forget the berliner weisse!

Potzdamer Platz

by m-joy

In the year 1990 this area was bare ground, during the 90?s it was the biggest building site in Europe, now everything is new and alive again. A good place for shopping and relaxing, but is it great architecture? Maybe.

Skylights

by matcrazy1

Some Berliners rebuilt their flats/apartments on the last floors especially in the upclass district of Charlottenburg. Hmm... modern skylights in the roofs of the old buidings looked a little strange. Shouldn't they forbide to renovate old buildings with no respect to history ?

Church in Nikolassee, 1909-1910

by Kathrin_E

The wealthy and green suburb of Nikolassee with its villas and gardens does not at all look like a quarter of a big city like Berlin. The church is situated on top of a hill above the Rehwiese park, entirely surrounded by trees and meadows.
The church was built in the early 20th century in the so-called Heimatstil, a historistic style formed by traditional crafts and techniques.

Date: 1909-1910
Architect: Erich Blunck and Johannes Bartschat
Confession: protestant

Address: Kirchweg 21, Nikolassee
Location: above Rehwiese
How to get in: open Sat and Sun 14.30 - 17.00, otherwise contact the parish.

Bar for common people in Kreuzberg

by carlote0 about Madame Claude

I just discovered a fantastic place in Kreuzberg, that just opened a month ago.
The place is called "Madame Claude" and the bar keepers are french and really nice guys.
The decoration is amazing, everything is upside down, and we can feel as if we were at somebody's place, or at home...
There is an interesting program with live concerts, blind tests! and good djs (I recently saw Léonard de Léonard there...).
I really appreciated the table tennis, it is really funny to play with so much people.
The atmosphere is really unique and original (and the cocktails too...)
I found their myspace with the program: www.myspace.com/madame_claude
An incredible bar, and opened everyday!
