Shoping

by vicjac

I will be for the first time in Berlin.
Can anyone tell me where can I find a
satellite electronic shop?
Thanks in advance

Re: Shoping

by globetrott

There is something that tells me you dont want to buy a satellite, but are rather looking for a SATURN-shop like they have many in Berlin:
http://maps.google.at/maps?hl=de&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=saturn+berlin&fb=1&gl=at&hq=saturn&hnear=Berlin,+Deutschland&view=text&ei=fu46TJatBoOjOOiKuYoK&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CB4QtQMwAA

I hope the link will work for you , otherwise a googlesearch for "saturn berlin" will get you there as well !

If you want to buy a satellite you have to get in contact with Astrium or OHB. But I doubt that they will sell them in shops.

If you want electronic consumer goods you can go to one of the big consumer electronics markets like the already mentioned Saturn or Media Markt. They have several stores in Berlin. And Berlin is huge. But there is a Saturn and a Media Markt right next to Alexanderplatz.
http://www.mediamarkt.de/maerkte/berlin-brandenburg/
http://www2.saturn.de/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/main?langId=-3&storeId=12054&catalogId=11554&ok=T_MYOUTLET&uk=S_DATA

If you just want special electronic parts for building your own satellite or whatever there are other shops.

Well....I don't want to buy a satellite. (It would be nice though)
I intend to buy a HD satellite receiver (dreambox, ipbox or Kathrein).
If those places you showed me are the right ones, than thanks.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Electronic music

by chess_machine

Before going to Berlin I knew it was a capital of electronic music. I had seen the Love Parade and heard many people saying Berlin provided excellent electronic music. Well, I really like this kind of music, though I am far of being an expert.

In Berlin, every place we went to provided superb electronic music, from hype bars of East Berlin to great clubs in Warschauer (excuse the ortograph). Spent 3 nights in Berlin and stayed awaken till 5 o'clock each night. Just LOVED the music.

Checkpoint Charlie

by Audrey118

Checkpoint Charlie, the pre-fabricated monitoring tower that the Allies hoisted into position after the erection of the Berlin Wall, is no longer around.

This was also the place where non Germans could go through after World War II where you could pass from the American sector of Berlin to the Russian sector
. This particular checkpoint was made famous by a stand-off between Russian and American tanks shortly after the wall came up.
This is one of the many places in Berlin where the utter effacement of such recent history is unnerving. There is a museum nearby is interesting, and has a display of ingenious devices employed in escape attempts from the former East Germany.

Only Mercedes?

by matcrazy1

Whenever I saw a taxi stand in Berlin there were exclusively white Mercedes taxis waiting for consumers.

Coincidence? Law? Or maybe Berlin's taxi drivers love Mercedes cars and believe (like most Germans, add here BMW fans) that they are the best for taxi cars as they are roomy, comfortable, can drive hundreds thousands of kilometers and don't lose much on prize.

By the way Mercedes is not at all German company now! It's Daimler-Chrysler now which is owned by European, U.S. and other international investors. They produce a lot of passenger car brands including Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Smart of which Mercedes-Benz and Smart dominated on Berlin's streets.

Bauhaus-Archiv & Design Museum

by aliante1981

No, I am not mistaken, this is one sightseeing highlight, not two :))) It’s just that the Bauhaus-Archiv houses the Design Museum.

Created by Walter Gropius (1883-1969), who is famous for being the founder of the Bauhaus (hence the first name of the building), Bauhaus-Archiv was built in 1979.

In its capacity of the Design Museum, it houses some of the works by Kandinsky, Klee and Schlemmer; also scale-models and development plans; Bauhaus-design and a library.

Dance the night away - "latin style"!

by Bernhadette about Soda-Club

If you are a fan of salsa, merengue, bachata and co. you can chill out at the Soda-Club. Each Thursday and Sunday evening there is a latin party. The ambiance is great and the people pleasingly normal. In the summer-time you can even dance outside...
In case you feel that you need a bit more training you can take a dance-lesson before the party (open-access for beginners and advanced).

Thursdays: dancing-lessons: 8 p.m.
party starts at 9.p.m.

Sundays: dancing-lessons: 7 p.m.
party starts at 8 p.m.

Entrance: 4 Euro incl. dance-lesson
