Good bars for 20-30s something aged people who like to dance

by ChepassaChica07

Hi VTs, am going to be in Berlin August 16 from around 6 pm and would like to go out and see some night life, preferably in east Berlin, can you recommendend any places in the area - and what about getting home, is there trains etc at night like here in Denmark?

Also, please reccommend some good places for drinks in the West as that is where I will be staying.

And - if you feel up to it - I am about to arrange some kind of pre-bar meeting in Alexander Platz at Starbucks around 9 pm on Saturday..look under meetings!

>>is there trains etc at night << yes, the public transport still works at night, for further info check out: www.bvg.de
especially: http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/Bvg/Detail/folder/694/id/3102/nb/1/name/Night-time+services
I recommend not to make a division between east + west Berlin when searching for locations, you won`t realize the difference anyway.

Ahem without having a clue what kind of music you like, that's quite a task.
You could try

Sage Club
76 Koepenicker St.
Subway: Heinrich-Heine-St.

Other than that, here's a nice walk-through introducing Kulturbrauerei which hosts a couple of clubs and live venues:

Read my tip on Kulturbrauerei for hints on how to get there.

General question, general answer:
Try the area around Winterfeldplatz.

Should have stopped earlier to search for the above mentioned BVG site.

Travel Tips for Berlin

The prove it was there

by Igraine

We had been crossing Potzdammerplatz already a few times and only the last time we saw these marks on the ground.

It was a very weird sensation that they way we walked around and the cars coming by wouldnt have been possible till 1989. And after they cleared the wall away.

Berlin - Culture and Art

As one of Europe's leading cultural centers, Berlin has always impressed visitors with its diversity of museums, palaces and historic edifices. Berlin's historic significance as a former royal residence comes alive on almost every corner, especially in the eastern part of the city. Three opera houses, a large number of theaters, cinemas, cabarets and the renowned Berliner Philharmonie offer cultural experiences for everyone.

Situated at the end of the Tiergarten, the Brandenburger Gate is the most famous and beloved sight in Berlin. Walking eastward from there on the grand old boulevard 'Unter den Linden', passing by the State Opera, Hedwig's Cathedral or the Old Museum, one can experience a microcosm of history.

One of the most magnificent sights is the Gendarmenmarkt with the French and the German Cathedral and the Schauspielhaus, constructed by Schinkel in classicist style. A statue of Schiller reminds one of Germany's great tradition of mind and muse.

No trip to Berlin would be complete without visiting the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam. This is the place where the famous terraces, designed by Knobelsdorff, Neues Palais and the Orangerie can be found. In contrast, the buildings erected for the IBA (Internationale Bauausstellung) provide a guide through Berlin's most recent architectural trends.

Set in a landscape of expansive lakes and forests, there are many possibilities to enjoy Berlin's outdoors. The Grunewald Forest and Lake Wannsee cover a large area of the western part of the city and can easily be reached by a short ride on the S-Bahn.

Since the reunification, there are wonderful opportunities to take excursions, for example, a boat-ride on the river Spree passing by the Reichstagsgebäude and Pergamon Museum through the historic inner city - all the way to the Spreewald southeast of Berlin, crisscrossed by hundreds of romantic channels.

Visit the Humboldt University

by EviP

It is Berlin's oldest university, founded in 1810.
Many of the world famous personalities have been professor or lecturers here, including Engels, Marx and Einstein.

Walking passed it on the way to Unter den Linden I was intrigued to enter...!

Karl Marx's words in the entrance translate to:

"Philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways, but now it is a matter of changing it"

Mmmmmm chocolate

by MD2nd about Hussel at Alexa mall

Hussel is a store (groundfloor of the mall) offering every thing sweet and lovely to eat yet mostly chocolate made. Their chocolate kinda remind me on Hershey's as both of'em are less creamy and sweet like the Milka/Nestle/Lindt things are, which I personally prefer. However Hussel's various selection & deco are just awesome. I purchased a chess game pure (black & white) chocolate made. Service & staff are VERY nice and they beautifully wrapp up things if bought as gifts/souvenirs (like chocolate made mini Brandenburger Tor).

Berlin Bar KUMPELNEST 3000

by Dimi1

Oh, oh ... The Kumpelnest 3000 is looking poor but once you're in you smell an energy which is unique in Berlin. It's noisy, legendary, grazy, cool and it looks like that since I'd say 20 years nothing has been restored or renewed there but the mood is always high and the people are cool and the heat lasts a whole night ... A taste of Berlin's 70ies and 80ies ... something special ... Enjoy if you feel cool enough ! Be yourself ! Be cool !
