Walking up to the hotel was not a pleasant surprise. The area is quite nice but somehow the hotel does not belong to this neighborhood. It looks like a cheap highway stop. They had a big sign hanging outside advertising a rate of 35 Euros with breakfast including. THe reception is also the bar and since we arrived early in the morning, the wurst and cheese was right under our nose as we spoke to the lady to get our key. The room was very smokey and had the smell of beer. No wonder, the receptionist had her beer mug on the bar already. The room was a nice size but very cold decoration. The bathroom was nice size but there was no window and NO ventilation....are we following rules here? The windows are very old and only had a broken blind to close on both (no curtains to darken the room in the morning). IN the hotel ad in internet it states hairdryer. Well, I have very long hair and had to go out in the morning (mind you it was 4 degrees celcius!) with wet hair and found the nearest Dunkin Donuts to warm up and allow my hair to dry. Notice I mention we went to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast. That is because the breakfast room was smelling like a bar because it was the bar! I think I forgot to mention we DID NOT pay the advertised 35 Euros advertised on the oversized banner outside. We paid double that price! Anyway, guess the Heidelberg should fly away or improve their standard.
